He hasn't had a concussion in nearly 4 years. He has played 82 games in two of the last three seasons and has only missed a total of 4 games since that last concussion. I wonder if that's still a concern with him?

Buffalo needed a goal scorer after Kane left.

They likely did try, as any team would.

One thing is certain from looking at that list, having a bunch of 1st round picks is no guarantee you'll hit the mother lode.

I really like this trade, Buffalo has made a lot of changes and I have some hope for an improved season, for now.
Oh yes, I forgot about him. What about O'Rielly though? I know his name was in a lot of rumors, but do you know why they decided to trade him? Just seems strange to ship out a strong center for a team that is looking to improve. I don't know much about the Sabers.

What a weird thing to say by Friedman re: the headshot. Any player could be a single head shot away from not playing. Skinner has been healthy and productive the last number of years. Seems like a headline grabbing statement to me.

Dunno if this has been posted yet or not, but it’s funny enough to be posted again even if it has!

There was lots of talk about attitude/leadership issues. There were comments made throughout the season and at the end of the season that make me think he quietly asked for a trade.

I feel too I think it's really crept in with myself and over the course of the year, I lost myself a lot and where you just kind of get through and being the guy and being okay with making a mistake and that's just not winning hockey at all and it's crept into all of our games. It's disappointing, it's sad. I feel throughout the year I've lost the love of the game multiple times.

With the rapid development of Middelstadt, who looks ready to jump in as a 2C right away, I guess made him an expendable asset. I think it's fine though -- there really aren't a lot of 'bad' moves for a last place team to make. If we came back with largely the same roster next year, you could probably expect the same result, so I welcome change by trading a player who, while solid, has never proven to be able to contribute to a winning culture.

I wonder if this is the first time a top 6 player has been traded for pu?

Interesting point, and I mostly agree , in fact there is only one hall of famer (Shutt) on the whole list

on the other hand, other than the Isles (who are going to Isle)

you have the Aves, who drafted two 1000+ game players, they won a Cup in 2001 (admittedly they had also won a cup in 96 so they were a good team already) with Tanguay and Skoula as regulars, Regehr being a key trade chip for them

the 72-74 Habs, only one star (Shutt) but a reasonable amount of depth for their late 70s cup teams came from these drafts

the Bruins draft- they ended up with 2 stars, but those guys starred and won cups for Flyers

I copied and pasted from the source, which likely copied and pasted from the formal draft-day lists. They did things a little differently back then. The Flames drafted Chopper under the name ‘Allan MacInnis’, and Theo Fleury was ‘Theoren’ in print until he had been in the league for some time.

Avs and Habs did pretty well, I'd say.

Hey... name another NHL team that’s finished 31st. You can’t. That’s right, we own that.
