Mount Royal, signal hill, tuxedo, killarney, bel-aire, mayfair all say hi.
I think the worst name is cityscape, personally.
My favorite names are those named after a significant Calgarian or previous resident of the land. Strathcona, Hawkwood, Haysboro, and Hotchkiss, for example.

The drape region is a little further north.

I can't figure this list out. For example:
11. Dalhousie
Restaurant points: 11 ♦ Recreation facility points: 59 ♦ Engagement score: 59.45
Walk Score: 53 ♦ Transit Score: 55
Population in 2017: 8,992 ♦ Community size: 3.3 kmē ♦ People per kmē: 2,761
Person crimes per 1,000 people: 6.90 ♦ Property crimes per 1,000 people: 51.16
12. Varsity
Restaurant points: 25 ♦ Recreation facility points: 126 ♦ Engagement score: 75.82
Walk Score: 62 ♦ Transit Score: 56
Population in 2017: 12,525 ♦ Community size: 6.8 kmē ♦ People per kmē: 1,855
Person crimes per 1,000 people: 6.87 ♦ Property crimes per 1,000 people: 53.73
Nightbourhoods are side by side. Varisty seems to have more points then Dalhouse in every category, but Dalhousie is higher?

I disagree that it is an "average" neighbourhood and I'm not sure if you were jokingly summoning me or something by saying there is "literally nothing unique about it", but I'll bite. Dude, there is a lake there. Maybe 2% of Calgary communities have a lake? Calgarians drive/fly for hours to spend a week a summer at a lake, yet lake community people can walk over to a lake after work. Arbour lake is a small lake, but if you like swimming/paddling/chilling out on a beach, it has what you need. You can't do that in Evanston, I know that much. And good luck doing that in Hillhurst. You could sit around the spittoon with a bunch of scuzzy bottle pickers, though.
I grew up in the Northwest and lived there until my mid-20s. I know the area and I can honestly say it's inferior to south Calgary; however, if I had to live in that quadrant Arbour Lake would be the only option.
|
But they are not real lakes... Far from it in fact. Calgarians don't travel for hours to spend a single minute in those crap ponds. They travel to real lakes.

Is there much of a differential between the average price of a lake community home + fees versus non lake community worth it? Is it where you could do a couple of nice trips to some real lakes or beaches for the money?

So Mount Royal is among the city's worst neighborhoods now? Things sure have changed since I left.

Used to live there!
My assumption is this is the fact that Chinook center is likely considered Meadowlark Park and given that the community is so small might skew the ratio of it is crimes occurring there in the parking lot etc?

I dont know about all these communities, but you do pay more to live in Bonavista. I wouldnt attribute that all to the lake as its a really nice community (in my opinion, and I dont live there). I would say it adds about $100-150k to the price of a house maybe? Its also difficult to really gauge the impact because there are a lot of factors in general.

That's the reason adjacent neighborhoods have such different scores. To take Arbour Lake as an example - the YMCA, library, arena, high school, crowfoot theatre, and crowfoot shopping are all technically in Arbour Lake, so they boost it's score, while not affecting the scores of adjacent neighborhoods.
This happens all over, and probably explains things like woodbine/woodlands being so different.
Their methodology is terrible, and every year we all discuss it.

FFS, I can't figure out how to post pics. Here's an imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/n4vQb29. Shouldn't I just be able to put that in the [ img] X [/ img] tags (minus the spaces) to have it display in the thread?

No. That's a link to the webpage. You have to actually get the url of the image, which is https://i.imgur.com/QGzc1dg.png

LOL I don't know a single person in this city would drive/fly for hours to spend time in a piss filled swamp. Who are you hanging out with?

Looks like Canyon Meadows slipped from 20th last year to 28th this year.
Which is odd, as the Vietnamese Restaurant's food improved under new ownership, and the pub at Canyon Meadows/Elbow Drive re-opened as well.

Actually I think the aquatic centre re-opened since last year as well. Indoor lake is just as good as real lake, better even, the best. Everyone knows this.

Did the pub just renovate, or is it new ownership? They use to have the best spicy parmesan wings.
