Maybe create a biodome where they are. Pump air and vent off the CO2. Wait it out.

This story is so crazy...

Reminds me a bit of the time my ski coach brought us all out of bounds at Lake Louise... (I was 12.) He fell and broke his leg and we had to carry him out. Smart going, Dave. We could have easily been caught in an avalanche. My biggest fear, though, was/is falling into a tree well. /shudder

Then there's the time the principal of the Banff Elementary School got us all lost and insisted on crossing the spring-swollen Elbow River with about 50 sixth-graders using a human chain. That was fun. I wonder how many kids have PTSD from that (I was a Kamp K counselor at the time).

Both incidences could have been horrible...

I really hope this story ends well. Godspeed.

Drilling 1km doesn't take that long. Getting the equipment to the right spot and drilling to the right spot is the challenge. 1km of drilling is only few days of work.

The problem is they have only 3-4 days. So unless that equipment is already being set up at the right spot...

It's looking like this is going to end badly.

It sounds like a rescue attempt may be underway.

Medical teams are waiting near the entrance.

I can only find live television coverage on BBC at the moment.

Definitely anxious moments.

If what they're saying is true, and they have the ability to walk most of the way to the 3rd chamber, that's a pretty huge bonus. I'm a little iffy on Thai PR though.

Thanks for the diagram, Reggie.

Wow - that choke point looks terrifying. If you're claustrophobic or frightened of enclosed spaces? Goodness.

Holy s**t, that's insane. I don't think I'm too claustrophobic, but that would definitely scare the hell out of me and I'd likely panic.

With every fibre of my being I hope these kids/coach and their rescuers make it out alive.
One brave person has lost his life and I truly hope every one else makes it out alive.

The parents of these kids have gone through emotional hell and I hope they can hug their children upon their escape from this cave.
The kids and the coach... may your bravery and perseverance be rewarded.

Get out. Get out alive.

If all goes well, the first rescue should come out of the cave around 9 pm local time - which is 8 am Calgary time.

I can’t imagine the odds of all of the kids being rescued successfully are that great, but here’s hoping we wake up to some good news. Those rescuers are absolute heroes.

It doesn't mean much, me and my girl aren't all the religious, but we went to the church down the street today and lit a candle and said a prayer for these kids and their coach and the rescuers.

It can't hurt right?
