Not saying I would have made the equivalent trade (i.e. in terms of Flames assets), but what do we do now? I still think we need another top 6 forward to truly be considered a contender.

What was Douglas thinking, right?!?!

This is a quantity for quality trade.

Almost every time these happen, the team getting the quality wins.

The Blues had 4 very good forward prospects, I'd rank in this order
Thomas, Kostin, Thompson, Kyrou
To do this deal without giving up up Thomas or Kostin is a win. Thompson is a good piece for the Sabres, no doubt.

To dump Berglund's contract who wouldn't have a place in the lineup after today anyways is another huge win

After today:
In - ROR, Bozak and Perron
Out - Berglund, Sabotka, Thompson

great day for the Blues!

Love it, we get some useful players plus the first round pick. We have three 2019 first rounders already!

Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko
Fabbri-O'Reilly-Perron
Steen-Bozak-Soshnikov
Thorburn-Barbashev-Jaskin

Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo
Gunnarsson-Parayko
Edmundson-Bortuzzo

Allen
Johnson

Unless Jake Allen craps the bed, that's a really well built team that should be in the playoffs and probably win a round or two. Pretty good rebuilding on the fly.

Berglund is a 20 goal guy if you look at his stats, he's still in the lineup just lower

Jeremy Rutherford @jprutherford

The Blues gave Buffalo a big package for ROR (including paying the $7.5 million signing bonus), but they've been trying to unload Berglund/Sobotka for a while. Plus, they don't give up Thomas, Kyrou, Kostin, etc. #stlblues

Berglund is one of those infuriating players, not unlike Glencross or Bourque. Puts up decent numbers but leaves you wanting so much more. He won't be missed around here

Ooh this pisses me off, in case you couldn't tell.

That's pretty much like Bennett + 1st + 2nd plus a couple of darn near cap dumps to off set the salary like Frolik and Stone.

Flames are going to have to see internal growth from guys like Bennett, Janko, etc if they aren't willing to part with them to get a legit top 6er like O'Reilly.

I figured the Blues were out on him after signing Bozak.

Direct competition for wild card spots just got a lot stronger down the middle today.

It will be interesting to see how ROR fits on a team that isn't a tire fire.

So this means Buffalo loses the pick if it ends up being top 10?
