not a fan of Maroon... i mean, is he really tough anyways? He's a big man, but i thought he played a pretty soft game....
paying for his points he got on McDavid's coat tails seems like a terrible idea

Realistically, how much money do the Flames have to spend tomorrow? They do, after all, have a lot of RFAs to sign.

Yeah Dreger especially.
When it’s major news it’s Lebrun or Mackenzie talking, so it’s worthwhile to listen.
When it’s fluffing up a player it’s usually Dreger rubbing the agents back in order to maintain his own standing of relevance in the hockey world and thus his ego as being a connected insider.

$24.5 m.
Lindholm snd Hanifin will probably command around $11 m, and their remaining RFAs should come in under $4 m
Realistically, the Flames have roughly $8-9 m to play with.

Not a huge fan of Maroon, simply because I want more speed in the lineup. However, there are a few reasons why it might make sense...
1) With Lindholm, Hanifin and possibly Ryan coming in, and Stajan, Versteeg, Jagr, and possibly Brouwer (popcorn) out, team speed is already improved.
2) Maroon is a pretty straight-forward replacement of Ferland, and could slot into his spot, allowing Lindholm to slot into the middle 6, and enhancing our depth.
3) he sticks up for his team-mates.
If we can't find a goal scorer, and his deal wasn't for term, I could get on board.

This is precisely my thinking as well. I would be okay with adding him on a shorter term deal.

Not even McDavid would break 40 points playing with McDavid. Edmonton is a mess and players shouldn’t fully be evaluated by their time there.

Most of the top tier players will be overpaid, after signing a boat anchor like Brouwer I would be a bit gunshy on pulling the trigger on one. With the cap going up and Couture getting 8x8 I could see this being a Frenzy that will get teams in contract trouble.

Maroon strikes me as a decent Ferland replacement. BBut will likely cost too much and be asking too much term. Thinking almost Lucic type term.

I'm interested to see what type of term Maroon could command. I would rather overpay him for two years than commit long term.

Maroon has no footspeed. Hope we steer clear. Also comparing him to Ferland is way off, he scores all his goals within 5 ft of the net, he's not a sniper.
If picking up a slow player to play with Johnny and Mony is the goal I would rather see how much the Ducks are willing to retain on Perry.
Otherwise let's target guys who can skate. I'm hoping Czarnik picks us.

Problem is its July 1 which means your overspending. Realistically Maroon is a 3m x2 years guy which I would be fine with. But he is going to get paid a 4ish×4. Barf.

Last we saw of him, he was still able to one time slap shots into top corners and beat up some of the toughest guys in the game.
If he used his time off productively, maybe he is a real option as a power play specialist and enforcer? like Lanny in 89, he doesn't have to play every game.

I have a feeling Iginla could care less about the Flames or even his legacy here anymore. I would not be shocked if he took a 1 yr deal with the Oilers.

I can get on board with a Maroon signing but unless the cap hit is below $3M anything more than 2 years will be a mistake. He is as dumb as a bag of hammers but I think he fills a need on the team that is too soft and at least he has a bit of a scoring touch (remains to be seen without McDavid)

Will be satisfied if we walk away with one of Tavares, JVR, Neal, Stastny, Grabner, or Perron.
Ryan or Rieder would be icing on the cake. But one of them as the lone acquisiton would be disappointing on the whole as we'll come out of the off-season having lost some goal scoring talent.
