I would usually agree, and hopefully Brodie's value still stands with the GM's of the league. Had this been last year or the year before Id say Minny adds for sure. But Brodie has had a lot of negative feedback all year and Id agree with most of it.
I think Brodie value didn’t lower too much as the league knows Gulutzan was terrible for him and a move back to the right side should easily help.
As for the poll, voted Zuccarello, been linked to him before and we could get rid of a d prospect
Not to derail this further but I’m Chinese and grew up in Canada, and the amount of jokes centered around dog and Chinese food that I’ve heard in my lifetime is actually pretty annoying. That being said it is a fact that dog is a cuisine in many parts of China (not all parts however). I understand the humor behind it, and that in this case it’s meant to be a jab at Oiler stink, but also understand that Chinese cuisine is extremely diverse and that Chinese people eating dog has been used on me numerous times humorously (even though I’m from HK and dog is not part of the cuisine there) to make me appear outcast and different than my friends, and is often accompanied by other more harmful jokes about my facial features or our language.
Well I am sorry people would directly attack you like that, that is not what I was doing. You are dead on, it was a stab at Eberle and the stench of Grease that accompanies him. In no way was it supposed to be offensive toward Chinese people and I think Nik made a hell of a stretch to see it that way.

Great, I disagree with your disagreement. Tavares has been a superstar in waiting for years, but never became a player that could dominate and take over a game like Crosby, Ovechkin, or McDavid. A game breaker of that level would lift a team like the Islanders into a playoff slot with consistency. He hasn’t done that. No way is he a $12M player. Not even close. $8-9M you have me onboard, but $12M? That’s an Oiler level mistake.
You claim Tavares isn't a superstar because he alone can't get his team in the PO's with consistency yet you mention McDavid is a superstar but he only made it once in 3 seasons.
Tavares is certainly a superstar, every winger he ever played with had career point totals, without him the Islanders would have been fighting the Oilers for best suckage the last 9 years.
Man, I remember when you used to be able to make your own polls, until this new poster showed up and started making like 3 polls a day until they took it away lol.
Yeah, I take full responsibility for this. I was far too enthusiastic, to put it kindly

POLL REQUEST - Which Legit Top 6 Forward Do You THINK The Flames Will Acquire?
I voted for Hoffman. We were linked to him back at the trade deadline, and I think those talks will fire back up as the Sens move into a full rebuild.
I think we’ll pursue both Tavares and Neal, with the Flames actually getting on the short list for Tavares...but not sure how either of those two pitches will end.
I said Neal.
I think treliving fails to sign or acquire a second top 6 player.
I don't love Neal, and I'm scared to see what his contract might look like, but he's a good fit for the team skill and position wise.

I'm in on JT as well.
I really think the Flames are going to land him.
I know all the reasons why it seems unlikely, so please don't bother informing me of them here.
I just think it's going to happen.

Yes, he is. He's one of the top ten or so players in the game.
You've highjacked threads with this take before. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're in a tiny minority suggesting Tavares isn't a game breaker. Because he is.

James Neal (UFA)
James Van reimsdyk (UFA)
David Perron (UFA)
Tyler Bozak (UFA)
I would be surprised if the Flames don't sign one of these guys in free agency. They have a lot of cap space, and a clear need for a top 6 winger.
These guys are fine (for the most part). I don't think there's much need for a big trade. Except maybe to acquire a younger NHL caliber goalie.

The problem with these guys is both the term and cap hit it would take to get them as UFAs. I think I'd pass hard on all of them (save for maybe Neal, depending on the numbers) with the over-pay it will take to get them inked.
There really is no excuse that we would not be able to get one of the upgrades on our roster. We have the trade chips and the cap space. Personally, I think we have the roster to get into the playoffs with the new coaching staff but no much beyond that. I just want a player on the top line that can burry the sweet set ups from Johnny. Ferland has a great wrist shot but not much of a slap shot or one timer.
I think picking up Hoffman and playing either him or Johnny on their off wing would be magic. Ideally I would like to see a player like Nylander on that line but that would be expensive and soft.

I definitely get where you're coming from, but I would not be surprised to see some of these guys sign a deal for 4 years or less.
Let's compare 2 options:
JVR: Perhaps 6.5 million for 6 years. No assets required. Keep picks and prospects to use for other trades. Would still have around 10 million in cap space (assuming 80 million cap).
Mike Hoffman: 2 years at 5.2 million. Would probably require a 1st +++. Would then be a UFA after only 2 years.
The Flames have more cap space than they do assets imo. Free agents are free, the only cost is the over-payment.
If none of these guys can be signed to a somewhat reasonable deal, other guys like Smith, Vanek, Stastny, and Grabner are available as well.
I think the Flames should keep their trading chips for a goalie acquisition. Smith is 36 years old. I'm worried about goaltending more than anything.
