Pascal says both have good 2 way games and the Flames like the way they skate.
Hogstrom - feel he is really solid 2 way player in Sweden. Can provide good organizational depth. Is a player who developed later. With age comes experience. Ultimately he felt it was time to come to NA.
Ehliz - can play up and down the line up. Jack of all trades. can play both LW and RW. Like his quickness and versatility.

Nothing to lose here. Having depth is so underrated. Not every signing has to be a top 6 forward or top 4 defencemen. It is really important to have guys that can provide replacement-level ability during a season, and even more importantly for a playoff run. If they turn out to be better than that, it is a home-run. For now, it is just solid planning.

Perhaps I missed the many times Treliving and hockey ops mentioned it in the past but I'm left asking why the team is emphasizing speed and quickness now?
Was it not incredibly apparent years ago that skating, speed and skill were the premium qualities in the modern game?
From what I recall hearing it was compete, character and hockey iq (which I really like). Don't get me wrong, I like that they are prioritizing speed but I'm really disappointed that it's seemingly taken this long. They seem really behind the curve in their drafting philosophy.

I believe the issue in the past was that players with speed required offensive talent and if a player did not have that talent, they went after players with size. A fast skater with low end offense wasn't highly desired back then.
It isn't like that now, because it has been proven that a team with high end speed can win games differently. It is very difficult to play against these super fast teams, there is always a few guys all over the puck. The fastest player in the game that can't score is still a problem for the other team, and don't cost as much as the offensive players.

Somewhere Rico Fata is wishing he was born 15-20 years later.

Hogstrom sounds interesting. Played with Ollas-Mattsson and assisted on one of his two career SHL goals.
Someone made a highlight reel of DIF's goals for 2015/16. I didn't watch the whole thing, but Hogstrom makes a couple appearances around 4:00-5:00, 10:00-13:00, 15:00, 16:30, 21:00-22:00, 26:00, 27:00, and 29:00-30:00
Big body, not afraid to pinch, point shots make it through traffic, decent skater, decent speed.
I think a 2 way deal for Hogstrom implies there is an expectation from both sides that he will play in the AHL for at least some part of the season.
He has never played in North America before. Unless he has a really good showing in camp, he will probably be sent down to Stockton until he has shown that he has adjusted to the smaller ice. Sitting in the press box as the 7th d-man probably doesn't help him get acclimated faster.
