My sister is visiting from the USA with her 3 year old son for a short week long vacation. I don't have a car seat and was wondering if there was a place where I could rent a car seat for my nephew? Is such a thing even possible?
http://www.littletraveller.ca/equipment.htm

Costs aren't too bad if it's for a few days. But it adds up if it's going to be an extended vacation. We last flew with Air Canada and they let you take 2 free items for babys. We took car seat and stroller for free. If we needed a play pen they would charge us for that.

Found this on the AC website.

https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...e/checked.html

You may also bring a maximum of two items from the following:
1 stroller to be checked at the baggage counter or boarding gate

1 car seat or booster seat

1 playpen

This is from the WestJet site.

https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/travel...checked-excess

Equipment for infants and children
Lap-held infant
Two pieces of infant equipment (e.g. infant restraint system, playpen or stroller) are permitted at no charge.

Fare-paying child/infant
One piece of equipment for a child/infant (e.g. approved restraint system (car seat), playpen or stroller) will be permitted at no charge in addition to the checked baggage allowance.
WestJet only allows infant and child restraint systems approved by Transport Canada or the Federal Aviation Administration to be used on board the aircraft. For details on non-acceptable and acceptable infant and child restraint systems, please see approved restraint systems (car seats).

So depending on if your sister's kiddo needs a playpen - it's probably just easier to bring a car seat?

Just brought home my first baby boy. Just tried changing him earlier and he got me good.

Yup, pee everywhere!

Just put an extra diaper or cloth across his hog or is there a better way?

Any tips?

Thanks

Putting a small cloth there during changing does the job.

This.

You’re free and clear until he can reach down and remove the cloth.

Put a clean diaper down first. Then it is right there when you take the old one off and you can easily flip it up once the pee starts flying.

Or, open up the diaper for a bit of air, then close it up soon after because you know it's going to go soon.

Also, don't get cocky. He will pee all over you the second you stop taking precautions.

Congrats! I have a newborn as well and it's an adventure for sure. A small hand towel is probably the best and cheapest bet for waterworks prevention for sure and I've tried the peepee teepee, putting a wipe on the hose, extra diaper, popping the diaper open and closing it for 30 seconds etc. I'd even suggest warming it slightly with warm water (a giant thermos on standby with hot water is great for this rather than waiting for hot water at the taps) so that it stays better.

Make sure you take care of yourself. Otherwise, you're no good to your spouse and son and you'll hit that energy wall earlier (I learned this the hard way). Early start parent line (811) is also useful as a resource as needed.

Good luck! And Congrats again!

Some great ideas. Thanks and congrats to you.

This is my second child. Infact, my little girl (she's 2) gets to meet her baby brother today. I'm so crazy excited haha!!

Congrats on the new edition.

Somewhere someone made a product called the Pee Pee Teepee. We used it for awhile but it doesn't do anything more than a cloth can do but at least you get to say Pee pee Teepee. I found the thing that helped the most was a wipe warmer. Keep the wipes nice and warm and the little one doesn't get the cold shock as much.

Tomorrow I am staying home with my 3 year old because he hurt his leg over the weekend. Need another day or two off his feet so that it can heal. We spent the weekend/today watching tv, colouring, playing with playdough, etc. He is getting bored (and so are we) and need to get out of the house.

Anyone know anything fun in the city that doesn't require much walking around. Currently thinking a trip to get some Timbits, but anything unique would be great!!

Check story time at library’s?

Or shaving cream and food colouring. Kids love shaving cream with food colouring. It’s the perfect blend of messy yet easy clean up

If you don't normally take transit, go for a ride on the C-train. I do this as a field trip with my preschoolers every year and they love it. Bonus points if you can get a backwards facing seat.

And here's a fun "science experiment" for at home.

Go to the Airport viewing areas and watch planes land/takeoff

Find Jefferies Park in ramsay and watch the freight trains come and go out of the train yard. There is a kids swing there so no real stress on the injured leg.

Perhaps the fish Hatchery?

Watch ppl playing in the new Harvey passsage.

Throwing rocks into the river

Not sure if you have bikes but the smoke has cleared now, maybe a bike ride with them?

Science center admission allows for entry into all of the movies in the dome theater.

Stanley park outdoor pool is only 9 bucks for an adult and toddler

- Matinees at Cineplex
- Airport Playground at Currie Barracks
- If you have a stroller, the Zoo could work for you, better yet combine t with a C-train ride
- Cobbs adventure park (also if you have a stroller)
- Telus Spark
- If his leg is not in a cast, the kiddie pool / lazy river at the new Rocky Ridge YMCA is pretty cool

Great ideas, guys - will have to look this back up for next time. When he woke up this morning, he decided we were going to go look at the power tools at Home Depot, then get donuts. So of course I didn't fight that idea.

Apparently we should have also gone back to the children's hospital as Jay Beagle brought the Stanley Cup there today.

We already have a 5 and a half year old son but this morning we had a baby girl. I feel lost, I can't remember most of the things I'm supposed to do and I'm not sure if the stuff I do remember was right.
