The change from the 60s has more to do with a chance in what's considered vulgar. Prior to the internet, people were very controlled in what they could access, both information and entertainment wise. Now you can find anything. As much as the intellectuals thumb their nose at the movie Idiocracy, the underlying satire was on point for alot of issues rising 10+ years after the movies release.
