agreed, was a shame when he left the organization because he was a great assistant coach for the flames as well. I would 100% take a chance on him.

Who should replace Harvey the Hound? I'm sure he will get fired after this season based on absolutely no hard facts. I don't think he gets the crowd going anymore so he is getting fired....I'm sure of it! It's mostly because he never comes in my section. How dare he!

Yeah....that's what many of you sound like right now. GG hasn't been fired and in fact, the only place I ever hear that he is would be right here on CP.

Pick any coach in any pro league including any manager in Major League Baseball and he would be an upgrade on GG. Worst coach ever.

The only coaches I've ever complained about are the GG's, both are beyond horrible!

Gulutzen is far better than Gilbert and I didn't want him canned during the season but the team is regressing and the writing is on the wall.

I would be happy with a veteran replacement but at this stage I am completely sick of the Flames constant coaching carousel and all I really want is someone who is going to last more than a few seasons. 16 coaches in team history! Bob Hartley as number 2 all time in games coached! So frustrating! Bob Johnson deserves a 2nd HOF induction for even lasting 5 seasons.

Do you think the Flames would pay the salary a top tier coach demands?

His coaching style is irrelevant. We'd be hiring Darryl because he's a proven winner with multiple Stanley Cups.

IF GG gets fired (and that's a big IF) I don't think this team would want a high profile coach. If I was a gambling man, I'd say the next coach of this team (next season or after) is going to be a guy from junior who's going to coach his first NHL game for the Flames.

I'd love it to be a guy like Coach Q or Tortz or someone who can get the most out of their players but I just think this organization has a very "meh" approach to things.

I think Cali might have nailed it in that GG stays but fires his assistants. He doesn't seem to be too eager to blame himself for failure. And possibly that might be the answer anyway. A better powerplay and goalie coach at least should improve the results.

No, there aren’t. Add one scorer, juggle the lines a bit, and you have a very comeletuve forward group.

That's an interesting suggestion.

If the Flames replace GG, I doubt they will be able to lure coach Q. There will likely be a few open positions this summer (possibly including NYR)& Quenville would have to want to come to the Flames. He would command a deal similar to Babcock both in terms & dollars. I doubt Calgary is at the top of his list.

I believe when GG was hired the organization spoke about hiring a young coach who would grow with the team. Well, this is growing with the team. It's not going to be a straight line to the cup. There are going to be ups & downs. If they fired him, it would be an about face from where they were two years ago.

As others have mentioned, there has yet to be a legitimate rumour the Flames are going to make a coaching change. Just a ton of whining from fans. Friedman said on the fan a couple weeks back he didn't think the Flames would make a coaching change and it's more likely they make a big trade or two to change the room.

It won't be popular with a lot of fans, but if the Flames are to believed with what they had to say when they hired GG, he likely isn't going anywhere just yet. Perhaps they send a shot across the bow by firing an assistant or two, thus shortening GG's leash.

Sorry, I meant “talk” from hockey insiders or people in-the-know.

Not talk that means literally nothing.

Example: If McKenzie says there is talk of Karlsson wanting out of Ottawa, he isn’t referring to a twitter post from Peter’s Pizza in Guelph.

But you’ve never been one to evaluate your sources

This has likely been mentioned elsewhere, but there are too many places where these comments could have been posted, so I apologize if this is a total repeat. At the CNRL shareholders meeting for the quarterly reports Murray Edwards specifically mentioned that they feel they are stronger by keeping the group (management and coaching) rather than having the constant carousel. He referenced this talking about hockey and teams that have had consistentcy versus constant change. Sorry I don't have the exact quote, the meeting may still be available on video if someone cares to look for it, but essentially it says to me that Treliving is safe , which I support, and I would not be shocked if GG sticks around due to this thought "process ". While I like the idea of not swapping coaching and management frequently like the coilers, I wish GG was not so stubborn and oblivious to the idea of changes to his system, player deployment and in game changes. Take this for what it is, but I wanted to add this in case it wasn't commented on, or got buried elsewhere.
