They had key pieces still in place for sure. Two very good centers in Krejci and Bergeron and a star winger in Marchand, and a stud in net like Rask were a great start. Plus Krug on the blue line and a leader like Chara, who still gets the job done.
But they were able to supplement their team with the 2014 draft.
They got Pastrnak and and Heinen who are already huge contributors. Especially Pasta. They also have Donato and Bjork who are on the roster.
We got Bennett, McDonald, Smith, Hickey, Ollass-Mattsson and Caroll. LOL
Good teams supplement their core through the draft, the Flames do not.
Imagine if the Bruins hadn't ####ed up the Seguin trade and blew the 1st round of the 2015 draft. They could have had Barzal, Connor and Boeser FFS.
