Looks like the NDP is surging on the back of the Liberal's falling fortunes.

At the start of the week, the PC's had 40% of the vote according to polls, the mainstreet poll had the NDP at 29.3 and the Liberals at 22% of the vote, the PCs polled at over 41%.

40% is considered majority territory.

I don't believe polls are even remotely accurate. Clinton was way ahead of Trump in the polls, how did that turn out? A better example is the last federal election where Trudeau was polled to finish dead last, how did that turn out?

Even if the PC's get the most votes Doug Ford will still not be Premiere. There is an article I read that states the Liberals will throw their support to Horwath in the case Ford is ahead. You can pretty much guarantee Horwath will be the next Premiere of Ontario.

Clinton was not "Way ahead in the polls" On the eve of the election polls had her with a 4% lead nation wide. Given the nature of her support a 2% swing towards trump through polling error would allow Trump to win the election. 2% error has been common in federal election polling. Given the above Trump had about a 1/4 chance of winning the election.

Polling in the last federal election on the eve of election showed liberal minority as the most likely outcome with a PC minority and liberal majority also in play.

Just becaus the media and the public doesn't know how to read polling doesn't make it wrong.

/end rant.

Yeah I don't like Ford much, but with the vote splitting that's going to happen between the Liberals, NDP and even to an extend Greens, I figure that Ford will win a narrow majority in Ontario.

I think a lot of Ontarians who are getting sick of being taxed to death are going to tune out Horwath's message just because she's NDP, and nobody wants Wynne or her party back, this campaign is about punishing the Libs.

That Toronto Star poll is not based on a randomized sample so take everything in there with a grain of salt.

The Ontario election candidates really are a laundry basket full of hand puppets this election. Pretty discouraging actually.

In my experience the people who are able to make a difference in politics are too busy making money to volunteer their time. Only when times get really tough do they come forth e.g. C. D. Howe.

Smart, dynamic and forward thinking people can usually make more money in private sector jobs, and anytime politicians vote to increase their own salaries it is highly criticised.

Everyone is always quick to jump on the negatives of any politician, yet agree that that "ALL" are unworthy or untrustful.
Maybe what we should try to do is look at the positives, the accomplishments, and compare those to previous parties. It might start a new trend.
Yes Kathleen has had issues, there is no doubt about it. She was also handed a big pile of feces to start, and had a very hard downturn in the middle of her run. Nothing anyone could have done to change those things.

What are her positives?
- Clean energy development. It HAD to happen, even though it came at a cost. Other Provinces will be playing catch up in the near future.
- She held back tax increases. The financial crisis really put the economy in a tough spot yet she managed to hold strong.
- Education support. Free post secondary tuition for kids whose families earn <$50,000. That = 235,000 kids who took advantage of this that may have otherwise not attended post secondary school.
- Free meds for those under 25 and over 65.
- $15/hr min wage. It IS a good thing.
- Investments in health have increased under Wynne.
- Beer in grocery stores LOL.
- Transit investments have been huge.

Lots of positives...and a bunch of negatives. We tend to get lost in the waves.

She’s totally corrupt though. It’s really hard to get behind that.

Compared to Ford, I think she will end up looking like the fairy godmother.
Alberta has had many of the same get re-elected year after year after year...until you know what happened.

The salaries that smart, socially-fluent people can earn in today's economy makes a career in politics unattractive in comparison. You're asking someone in the managerial class to basically take a 50-90 per cent pay cut.

More than that, though, is the unrelenting media attention and scrutiny politicians today are subject to. Every incident in your history pored over. Every comment scrutinized for wrong-think or insensitivity. Public vilification by increasingly partisan voters and media no matter what you do.

I'm actually surprised any sane person pursues high public office.
