25% retention would make his contract quite attractive to a lot of teams.

Absolutely!
RoR is 5 years older but still only 26, elite in faceoffs, and puts up more points than Bennett.

They could get a way better package than that at that price. It would be Bennett + +

I could see us trying to get Nylander added back as well in a trade that involved Kane

Don't think the Flames have the assets to do it, either. The Rick Nash return is what I'd expect the starting point to be for a 50% discounted O'Reilly. O'Reilly is a strange cat, though. May not even want to be moved. Makes you wonder what a GM would give up for a guy who has demonstrated a disinterest in playing for a contender.

Kane is a UFA in 19 games and wants a raise on his $5.25M cap hit
Bennett has another year at $1.95M and is then a RFA.
He has more value than Kane who would carry a little more value if he didn’t have the horrible off ice reputation. Buffalo paid a ton to get him and didn’t even attempt to re-sign him. Winnipeg who NEVER trades players actually made a move with Kane.
This guy has baggage and should not return a 21 year old former top 4 pick.

I think Kane would be a huge addition to this team if he signed an extension. He's matured as a player and playing back in Canadian market would add some juice. This team is lacking a proven mean, power forward who can score. Kane is up there in the league in shots, hits, goals and he can drop the gloves with the best of them. Hell he's a multicat beast in fantasy. Sign me up

I’m fine with trading for any of those Sabres at the right price. Not interested in giving up any more picks outside of trading for ROR. Maybe if they could get Kane with an extension, i’d be fine with trading a pick but 100% not for a rental

That would be my thoughts too. I am sure this is the same line of thinking GM's are going through evaluating the trade potential for Kane.
