When you look at the goal differential of those teams - save for Anaheim whom have had injuries that have held them back earlier on - you have to imagine that they're aren't going to taper off and fall off cliff. They'll be playing consistently good from here on out.
Flames are gonna have to do play a prolonged stretch of really good hockey to get a playoff spot. Have to perform over a .600 point percentage rate. 10 of their remaining 22 games is at home. Quite simply, they have to keep doing on the road what they've been doing, and they HAVE to win games at home. Don't do the latter, and they will not make the playoffs.
With how much of a toss up it is to make the playoffs, the inconsistency that has plagued the team all season long, and no reason to believe that's going to change for the rest of the season, I feel the Flames need to approach the deadline as sellers to try to recoup pieces that can help for the future. Trade Brodie to either bring in a top 6 forward, or picks for this draft. And see if someone can take some of the veteran deadweight for picks/prospects as well.
The Flames still are a bubble team, and need better players to become a legit threat in the playoffs. So still in building mode. The players that they should trade shouldn't really make the big of a difference in whether the team will be able to make the playoffs still or not. Can be in the position that the Flames help themselves for the future, while also getting to play playoff hockey.
