We got an absolute stud in jankowski. By his prime he will be a monahan but better defensively. Hes going to be part of the core or lead the core

Yikes. Lower the expectations a bit. I don't see him reaching the offensive heights of Monahan. Monahan is month younger than Jankowski and might hit 40 goals this season.

I get his excitement. Jankowski is that prototypical playmaking 2-way center with size. He's adjusting to the NHL pretty quickly, and his natural skillset will probably put him in the same bracket as Monahan in terms of point production (60-70 a year), but likely more assists instead of goals. Jankowski already creates more offense on his own than Monahan does, it's just that Monahan is a superb finisher...which you still need obviously as this team struggles to bury chances.

I think this way too.

Our first line is an unbelievable scoring second line but Bennett, Jankowski, and Tkachuk are all more two way players that fit the mold of first line players better.

Gaudreau and Monahan while super dangerous at all times just don't tilt the ice in a dominant way that other top lines do. I think this team goes as far as Bennett and Jankowski can take them. If they can get to that point where teams can't just key on Gaudreau and have to worry about a 1st line of Bennett - Jankowski - Tkachuk(?). Everything about this team just works better. Patrick Kane has never had to deal with 1st line duties on a consistent basis. Neither should Gaudreau. That isn't their game.

2.65m per x 3 years. Jankowski looks great, plays with confidence and poise for his young age.

Why would Jankowski sign that deal? It would be idiotic for a guy that could make double that AAV in three years if he signs a modest 1 or 2 year deal next.

For me it all depends on what happens early in the off season and July 1st

If Treliving decides not to make a splash this summer (I think he shouldn't this year) and he does not add any high priced players then I would love to see Jankowski wrapped up on a 6-8 year deal even if there is a slight over payment in the early years of the deal. Something like 8 years 4 per

If Treliving adds someone in the 5 million range on a 5 year deal I think signing Jankowski on a bridge deal makes sense as the lower cap hit will be needed as guys like Bennett, Tkachuk and Ferland all will want a raise. I think a 3 year deal makes sense as it will give him time to decide on what dman needs to go and if we have prospects ready to replace guys like Hamonic, Brodie or Stone

At some point I would like Treliving to get aggressive on the term of his deals. As good as he has been signing guys for low cap hits he is also setting himself up for cap problems with some of the short term deals. Ferland could get over paid and an extra year on his current deal would have been nice. Same goes for Bennett
