If he retires, would he be eligible to play in the Olympics?

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Lots of speculation on the future of Jaromir Jagr with CGY. Hobbled by injury, unable to get a defined role, rumours abound but, for now anyway, my understanding is no declarations are imminent. There has been and will continue to be dialogue between Jagr and CGY.

His girlfriend's instagram showed that the fire alarm went off at their vetro condo on New Years Eve and they all had to take the stairs down and hang out in the lobby.

All this is set against backdrop of what’s believed/rumoured to be an “arrangement” or “understanding” between CGY and Jagr when he signed; that if it wasn’t working out for one party or the other, mutually agreed termination of contract could be invoked...

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie

...but what are/were precise terms of that “understanding” and are they currently applicable? In any case, Jagr’s situation in CGY is certainly worth monitoring and perhaps could become clearer in the days ahead.

If Jagr could stay healthy I doubt he'd be on the 4th line.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
Not sure what news is coming today on #Flames RW Jaromir Jagr, but it's not going to be a retirement ceremony. At least, that's what I'm told. So what does that leave? Surgery? Shut down a while to get healthy? No news at all?

I'm just glad that it's not coming to an end. I love the fact that Jagr is a Flame, regardless of how well he plays -- and I think he's been playing quite well.

I think he’s looked alright this year despite not putting up a lot of points. It’s too bad the team has struggled because it puts the focus on him a little more.

I think he needs to shut er down until he’s 100% healthy. I’m not sure exactly what’s been nagging at him injury wise this year but a guy his age isn’t going to be effective if he’s hurt all the time.

It doesn't seem like there is any great reason to end the arrangement. I don't imagine Jagr has any other options and although Flames probably are liking what they see from their young players, they are not that deep. As long as Stajan is playing, there is room for someone. Now a deal for a forward could squeeze the playing time for a healthy Jagr.

A lot of talk about playoffs and how he can help there but I can't imagine he could last through the playoff grind. I am more hopeful that he could help win a few games to help Flames get there.

Jagr is the Flames second best forward when he is healthy.

Hopefully the team and him can take steps to get him back to 100% for the stretch.

How can you even believe this? He has great talent for sure, but is simply unable to put that talent to use any more. Too slow to keep up with the play, he takes "reaching" types of penalties too often (hooking, tripping) - sorry, but the speed of the game has passed him by at his age.

I wasn't a big fan of the signing, but wasn't overly opposed either. I value what he's done in teaching the kids, and that may be his biggest value to the Flames this year. But as a player - I think he's done. And he won't be "healthy enough" to contribute at a high level.

Jagr looked gassed his first couple games no question. He was 100% rushed into the lineup and was not up to game speed.

But the next grouping of games in early to mid/late November he looked right at home in the NHL. He was skating good, creating tons of chances down low, classic Jagr. He looked OK on the top line and great on the third line and he 100% deserved to be in the NHL at that point.

Then he got hurt and you can tell that injury has slowed him down again and he is not mucking around in the corner and has been pretty much useless since then.

I feel like his play in mid-November shows him and the team that he still has it but that he needs to get healthy before getting back into game. Long live Jags!!! Can’t wait to see him suit up for some playoff games!

(fingers crossed for no retirement today)
