Meh..He will (and should) get suspended, we got to accept that this is the type of player on our team. Very polarizing with a lot of pros and cons.

This is the con's part obviously but I'll take it for the long term impact and pros he brings to the team. There is a lot to take away from a player who can get in the head of an opponent where in the NHL, you have some of the most mentally strong players.

It's not, but nice try trying to spin it. He was already suspended twice (one game each time, I believe) and obviously hasn't learned anything from it.

So, yes, if it takes him a suspension of 5 games to learn what he cannot do, I do wish for it. What if he does something like this when our season is on the line? Or in the playoffs? He's an important player for us, he cannot do dumb things like this and get himself out of the lineup.

Short term pain for long term gain.

If Tkachuk does this while on the ice, it's maybe 1-2 games for a minor foul with dangerous intent. Spearing should never be tolerated.

Since he does it from the bench, they absolutely have to give him 5 games. It's not the act, it's the situation in which the act occurred. Players on ice engaging with players off ice leads to bench clearing brawls. You have to be strict on that kind of stuff.

Do your thing Tkachuk, but make sure you're only doing it on the ice. Enough of this stuff.

It'll be pretty lame to have him out of the lineup vs Canucks, taking a friend whose never been before and it'd be great for her to witness some antics in person.

Worthy of a fine but not a suspension.
Sure he is being an immature punk but neither of those taps had any intent to cause injury.

Suspending him for 5 games for an action that had a 0% chance of resulting in an injury is ridiculus and I would expect the NHLPA to launch an appeal if there was a 5 game suspension.

I can hardly wait to hear about how the flames veterans talk to Tkachuk and it results in neutering his play like what happened after the Doughty incident.

Not even the same thing though, this isn't 'playing of the edge'.

It's simple, if you're on the bench don't touch anyone on the ice. Don't change your play while you're on the ice, just don't engage anyone from the bench. End of discussion.

Also it wasn't a talking to that stifled his play after the Doughty incident. Pretty sure he hurt his back after throwing himself through the air and missing on a big hit attempt against L.A.

Were there any reports of this? I don't recall hearing anything about that but I do remember hearing about Tkachuk being spoken to about the Doughty incident

Maybe it's just me but asking him to stop spearing people from the bench isn't unreasonable.

What Tkachuk did was dumb and he probably deserves to be suspended for it.

With that being said, I have no issues with him playing the role of a dirty player. When he steps on the ice the opposition is either going to be worried about what Tkachuk might do, ie. slash, spear, butt end, slew foot, elbow, or they will be wanting to make sure they show this kid what's what and vengeance on the link and probably take a penalty doing it. Either way they aren't thinking about hockey and that's great for Tkachuk and his teammates because now he might get that extra half second of space to make something happen or he might draw that extra penalty that turns the game in Calgary's favour.

Players used to these type of things all the time back in the day.

He was suspended 1 game for engaging a player off the ice. 10 games later he engages a player on the ice from the bench.
Obviously 1 game didn't teach a lesson. I'm concerned they will hammer the point home strongly this time.

Love the kid. Love his skill and his game. Love the little extra-curricular stuff.

This is the bad with the good. The over-the-line, fairly stupid stuff, that gets him suspended.

He'll get games for this and he'll deserve it. And we'll miss him on the ice.

Repeat offender. I'd guess 3-5 games.

You can't come off the top rope with an atomic leg drop in the NHL.

If Martin would have rolled over like a soccer player it would have been 10 games, but since no one was hurt, I'm thinking 2 to 3 games for being an idiot. Obvious 1 game wasn't enough for him to learn that you cannot engage with opponents when you are not both on the playing surface. Maybe the team can get him to write lines on the blackboard during his suspension for him to remember.
