In fairness, its going to take a lot of positivity to erase the black hole of suck that this team was for the majority of the last game.
Goodwill has to be earned, but it can also be lost. Right now this team is in debt and unfortunately theres nobody for them to point fingers at.
Theres a lot of people who should be on a Hot-Seat, but nobody can say that they didnt sit their own asses into it.

I think you are in the 10-20% minority that would say at this point our season is going well

I agree with this. It's not that we lose, it's how we lose. On any given night any NHL team can beat any other NHL team. The issue I have is that our losses are frequently so putrid thay I question if our entire team is still drunk from partying the night before.
At least give me a loss with some positives. And before someone talks about our almost comeback against the Oilers. That is one team where we can never take a positive from a loss. Ever.

This might be weird since I've joined the "fire Gulutzan" crowd, but I don't think our season is really going badly. I think overall our season is going "well enough". It's actually a big reason why I want Gulutzan gone quickly and not wait.
I think this team is good enough that it might drag Gulutzan into the playoffs. Gulutzan isn't that bad and there's so much good in this team. But that's not a reason to keep Gulutzan around.

We are 10th in the conference, have a -5 goal differential, and the 30th ranked PK in the league. We give up close to the most shots against, are still waiting on the 4th line to score A GOAL, and have traded all our picks in next years draft.........
It may not be going bad, but it sure as **** ain't going good!

What? That's insane. I probably wouldn't care but the fact that our 1st round pick doesn't even belong to us means that we need to make the playoffs, at least as a wild card team.

I am going to blow a fuse if I hear the 4th line in the starting lineup again.
Gulutzan has acknowledged that his team seems to really relax and get into the flow of the game after they score a goal (and aren't down 2-3 goals still). But starting the bottom line and defense pairing does everything to undermine it.
We talk about the Flames players shooting themselves in the foot all the time, but this is a move that to me gives the impression of Gulutzan pointing a Glock 17 at his foot and squeezing the trigger. Do what you did last year and start 3M or at least the Bennett line Glen, don't get all hipster on us with player usage. It's driving me up the wall.
I have a handful of complaints with Gulutzan still, but this is undisputed #1 and it's not even close.

And I'd add after goal for or against you shouldn't come out with the fourth line and/or the third defense pairing. You have to avoid getting run if you give one up, and avoid giving away the momentum if you just scored one.
Saturday night aside though, there have been a lot of 3M and top pairing game starts of late.

This really boggles my mind, what competent coach will start his 4th line at home?

Flames play one of their best games of the season and dominate for large parts of the game (but not all, because this team can't seem to do that yet!). Flames win and the mood of the forum flips to the other extreme until the next time they play bad and lose. Some fans still find a way to not credit the coach for the dominating performance and insist that the team instead, abandoned the system, this time for 40+ minutes of the game.

So I expect they win this and make it seem everything is fine. But then come out Wednesday and get destroyed. Now if they lose today something is really stinky with the Flames.

Yeah nobody can claim the criticism is undeserved. This team's record isn't due to bad luck or injuries. This team has been amongst the most healthy in the league and most of their losses have been well earned.

They seem to follow "the best game of the season" (STL, AZ) by completely no-showing the very next game (DET, EDM).
Really hope this isn't a representative of our entire season:

0-6 against the Oilers, and hardly looking competitive in those games, is all that I need to see. We gifted them 8 points last season, and are well on our way to doing the same this season (10 points, actually, as we play 5 times this year).
Could you imagine, going 0-9 against the Oilers over two seasons, being the reason they were given the easy 1st Round matchup vs the Sharks in 2017, and the reason they were able to claw their way back to a wildcard spot in 2018?
GG's Flames are largely to blame for the hype machine that has exploded around the Oilers over the last 14 months.
If losing to a Flyers team that's on a 10-game losing streak is the nail in GG's coffin... then we better lose, while Treliving can still turn this season around.
|
Largely to blame? Ha. It’s a perfect storm up there for out of control expectations. The Flames have played a very small part.
But those out of control expectations have been blamed — by the Oilers — for their bad season. So, I guess, thanks GG?
