Flames pretty scrambly at the end there, but overall a pretty solid road period. They're skating, getting quality chances, and playing smart defensively. Smith is playing well too.

How was that 0-0? Crazy chances both ways.

Just gotta keep it simple in the offensive zone. We're cycling the puck well when we get set up down low but the turnovers on zone entries will kill us.

Yeah pretty even ultimately. Felt like we controlled the game a bit more, but not a lot of great chances either way.

Good road period. Couple nice chances.
Don't like the unnecessary turnovers, like Brodie's pass. Great block by Hamonic though.

Detroit laying down for the Oil tonight? That's disappointing.

I don't think Flames fans are used to being evenly matched with a good opponent!

Flames are struggling after entering the offensive zone. Any cross ice passes at the opposing blue line are immediately being intercepted and taken up the ice for odd man rushes. If we keep this up its going to bite us in the ass eventually.

They are clogging up the neutral zone, going real easy on the forecheck and banking on their physical defencemen to discourage any dump ins from us.
It's turtle hockey. I hate it, it makes me want to rip things up. Torts is only using this because he's painfully aware he can't come close to matching our scoring firepower or lineup depth, so their play is geared toward forcing mistakes from us instead.

It's brilliant actually. The flames generate so much offense off quick little plays just inside the opposition blue line. So it only makes sense to apply pressure immediately after the flames enter the zone and take it up the ice for an odd man rush. Sure it's blue line trap hockey but it makes sense against the flames

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
With all these "pay for content" start ups trying to earn our fan money in hockey analysis/stories these days I feel like I'd legitimately pay for a Gaskal version.
Too many cheap out to the advanced stat side and don't appear to have a great grasp on what actually happens in a hockey game, while others scoff at advanced stats and talk about the eye test while not providing much at all.
Gaskel really has a knack for informatively breaking down exactly what happens on any given play/pk/pp with insane detail that also leaves the reader understanding the breakdown (which is where a lot of "smart" hockey minds fail to translate to a good writer).

I heard Nick Foglino in a pre-game interview with Lubo and he is so well spoken. It was a great interview actually. Easily one of the best in the NHL.
He's got a job in broadcasting the minute he hangs em up.
