[quote=bawbag;6438274]persisting with old players who shouldn't be in the nhl anymore.

What players should be out and who should be in?

[b]garbage special teams
terrible zone entries and exits
4 line out for more than it should be

How would you know this as the game has not been played yet?

The Flames were a bottom 5 team with 77pts. Gulutzan takes that team to 94pts the next season. For a team that was slated to draft top 5 to go to the playoffs is success. 1 team out of 31 win the cup and if the only way to be successful for each team is win the cup then there are 30 unsuccessful coaches every year.

It can’t be defined that way for every team. The Capitals forni stance are basically at the point they at minimum need to make the ECF to have that be a successful year. I think the Flames getting the the second round would likely be considered a successful year.

I fully expect the Capitals are going to destroy us tonight. Hopefully I am wrong though. We don’t do well against fast teams, and if we take some dumb penalties they will punish us.

Would be nice to see the team play like they did in The back half of last season. But I’ve seen nothing to convince me those Flames are coming back.
Apparently one game under .500 was all it took to start a fireGG thread

Given the way the Caps broke out in Edmonton last night, in a back-to-back, I'm predicting a home loss for the Flames. Momentum is a powerful thing, one team has it and the other doesn't. Flames might score first but the Caps were in the same situation last night and managed to come back. If the Flames get scored on first, I don't think they have the confidence right now to turn it around during the game.

Go Flames Go! Surely they cannot lose another game against a team playing back to back?

As for the game, I think the Flames win one in OT. Law of average takes place and both teams go .500 here (6-6 and 5-5-2).
Only 2 threads? I count about 6 which have been taken over by the GG crap. It has even infected the E=NG thread. At least with the Jankowski complaints you could escape by reading the Jankowski thread. There is no where to hide from the Gulutzen hate.

Listening to the pre game comments it's great to hear the players talking about getting shots and pucks to the net. However you want them to trust their instincts too and not just shoot with no traffic or from bad angles.

Be creative, take the shots and just play quick.

Not sure why the itchy trigger finger for some fans bugs me, but it does. I'll work on it though, you're all good fans and you're allowed to be angry at whatever you want.

If the man is a bad fit for the team the braintrust will make that decision.

Historically however, teams that blame the coach in every rotation tend to just keep on sputtering. You have to commit and let a guy get hold, and work with the old and young players to evolve your team.

Right now they are in the middle of a few different runs that to me don't seem sustainable ...

1) PK run of 33% for three straight games. That's pretty tough to do.
2) They are now 26th in the league at 6.27% in five on five shooting percentage, and 28th in all situations at 7.37% when the Flames have been top 7 in shooting percentage the last 4 years.

I've been pretty consistent in throwing the Oilers a bone this season because they have good underlying numbers, so I'm certainly going to give the Flames the same benefit of the doubt.

The season started with giving up too many shots, they've fixed that. Then they took too many penalties, they've fixed that.

To me that's coaching.

Now they have to loosen up offensively, which is largely mental.

I don't see that as a coaching issue, but I guess time will tell.

I agree with you and appreciate the numbers Bingo. Where O don't see much of a talking point, at all, is the icetime allocation.

TOI avg's over 11 games, approximated from TSN.ca

Stajan avg 13mins
Bennett avg 13.5mins
Ferland avg 13.5 mins
Brouwer avg 14mins
Versteeg avg 14mins
Tkachuk avg 15.5mins
Monahan avg 17.5mins
Frolik. avg 18mins
Gaudreau avg 19.5mins
Backlund 19.5 mins

Gio 23 mins
Hamonic 20.5 mins
Hamilton 19.5 mins

Brodie 25.5 mins/ game...

Obviously the PK has slightly inflated a few guys minutes and reduced others,
But Bennett and Ferland are also on the PK as much as Stajan and Brouwer and Backlund and Frolik so the PK shouldn't be as much of a factor when speaking about these 6 guys.

So why is Stajan and Brouwer getting as much ice time as Bennett and Ferland?
They certainly aren't playing better or more responsible than either Bennett or Ferland..

And Brodie at 25+ avg minutes a game is way tooo much. I truly feel that his minutes are hurting his game.

I think giving the 4th line those 2 or 3 extra shifts and not spreading them among the top line and Bennett/Janko is hurting this team as well.

That's unfortunately all on GG..

Capitals will come out fast, need to weather the storm in the first and use our fresh legs to our advantage as the game wears on.

I predict Bennett gets his first goal tonight.
