Crap, this sucks. One of those guys who I've always loved since childhood, and hoped to catch live at some point.

Still no actual confirmation that he has died, but gotta imagine it's death or machines keeping him alive. Hopefully just being kept alive long enough for family to have some final moments with him.

I also enjoyed Tom's appearances on The Gary Shandling Show.

This sucks. He was a favourite of mine.
It seems like people from my generation and even younger are dropping everywhere.
All of a sudden I'm an old man.

Norm!
I came home and played a bunch of his music.
I was talking to my boss today after we heard what's happening and we were both kind of crushed by it.
This has just been a bad day.
He even made Stevie Nick's more awesome and that's hard to do

His second last show of the just wrapped up 40th anniversary tour he played it. Here is an excerpt from an article reviwing the show:
“American Girl,” “Refugee” and “Yer So Bad” ripped up the latter half of the set. In between, a gorgeous and melancholic “Wildflowers” (his backing singers the Webb Sisters adding heavenly harmonies) and a perfectly-chosen rarity, 1996’s “Walls.”
“I don’t usually take requests, but this one’s from me, so …” Petty joked, and we should all be glad he took it.

It was the CBC that got it wrong, but it does sound as if he will be dead soon.

His death got an encore. Can't die much more rock and roll than that.

Great life, great contribution with a soundtrack to many peoples lives, happy music and then dies without too much suffering. RIP.
