What would make you think that Gazdic + one of the PTOs will make the team?

Andersson deserves the spot. He doesn't shoot left but at some point you need to put that fact behind you and ice the best option. He's a player that can provide his services for two more seasons at league minimum and really round out our 6 D. I actually wouldn't mind seeing how Stone would handle playing on the left side since he has a big shot and would be able to use his one timer.

I really don't see Treliving doing that but just wondering...

I am intrigued by this, but cannot imagine how that would work out. If Gillies is indeed ready for an NHL spot (and I am not convinced that he is), then waiving Lack could potentially resolve the Flames current problem of surplus goalies. I can't imagine Treliving cutting bait on a player he just acquired without him having played any games with the Flames.

Exactly. Treliving spent a draft pick acquiring Lack. If they thought Gillies was ready for the NHL that never would have happened.
However, if either goalie misses time from injuries, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gillies called up.

I'd keep all the guys we have and ditch all the PTO's. Hathaway is as good as Glass and younger.

While I agree, it should be noted that while the Flames traded a 2019 6th round pick, they received a 7th back in the trade.
The only asset they traded was Keegan kanzig, maybe a waste of a draft pick though

You're right, I forgot about that. Carolina also retained part of Lack's salary (25% I think) and Calgary got Ryan Murphy for buyout purposes.
Clearly not a big trade either way, but I believe the organization still believes Lack can be a serviceable backup.

From what I saw there wasn't a lot more Lomberg could have done, he'll see a few games this year for sure. Love the way he plays.
Still wouldn't be shocked to see Andersson go to Stockton just to play a ton of minutes and Treliving make a move for a LH d-man. Kulak can be #7, Batrkowski can go to the AHL. Andersson can get called up when a RHD gets hurt.
I don't like seeing Gazdic on the roster, get rid of him.

I don't think people should read too much in Gillies still being up. Smith will get one more full game. At most Gillies will get a half game shared with Lack in the other one. I would like to see Gillies get a full game but I just don't see it. Probably just here for the practices and sitting on the bench for the remaining two games.

Perhaps another round of 3 headed monster?
I doubt it and I'm fairly certain Lack stays up. But no reason to think he gets a long leash. Yeah they traded for him, but didn't give up much. Passing through waivers is not a big concern. The concern is whether Gillies is truly ready for 20+ games.

I like that they're keeping Gillies up for the remainder of preseason at the very least. Smith and Lack have both had injuries over the past 2-3 seasons and could go down again at any moment. Love that management and the coaching staff are gonna give him another look and leave him with some confidence before sending him over to Stockton.
Can't see him beating out Lack to start the season, but would love to see a call up if the opportunity comes for him.

Unless Gillies is being shopped too ... I would kind of hate to see them let him go though

I think the same thing with Gillies. that those two are part of a package we have on the table.
Bah, it's probably my imagination getting the better of me, but i have this suspicion that the Flames are rumoured to be "in" on a lot of deals because we have an offer on the table and leave it open. It seemed to work that way for both the Lazar and Hamonic deals. I wonder if it's there again but involving two guys who seem to have come in with strong camps.

I always feel like once a player gets waived you can end your evalutation of them as a draft pick. They're not stuck at replacement level forever, but the pick failed to produce anything that wasn't made available to the whole league for free.

Forward is a good battle.
D and goalie are sad... Lack, Kulak and Bart are backing their way into spots and have all looked awful.

Poirier:
Quote:
"I'm a new person. A new player,'' Poirier said Tuesday before exiting en route to California.
"It's a fresh start. I'm excited to get going and prove I can be back here.
"I did my best. I played hard. And I'm going to keep going now, one day at a time. It's frustrating today, at least for a couple hours, but tomorrow you've got to come back stronger and be as good a player you possibly can.
"Any place I am I'll try to be better."
For Treliving, that aim has never seemed more possible.
"We're proud of what he's done,'' said the GM. "Because when you're off-ice isn't in order, you're on-ice has no chance.
"He's given his on-ice a chance.
"Now we've got to re-build the game. I think he showed some glimpses in camp. It's been tough for him, he got hurt in the first game, so now you're coming from behind. You've missed three or four days and now you're chasing it.
"So our message to him was: Go down to Stockton, with the plan we've given him, and be really good. That doesn't only mean producing. Be really good in practice, really good working at your game, really good in studying the game.
"But I can say, since I've been here, he's so receptive, for the first time in sending him down I think he's really given himself a chance to get back."
