Actually the UN shares my opinion on who should never possess nuclear weapons, personally attacking me doesn't make you right, and FYI I don't hate any race of people! can you say the same?

This opinion is downright frightening, sure pal, lets allow the same people that have no problem blowing themselves up to kill innocent people in churches, malls and rock concerts in the name of allah to possess nukes.
Country leaderships in places like Iran,Syria,Sudan and many more could never be trusted these weapons period.
And by allowing Kim Jong-un nukes the whole region will destabilize, S-Korea and Japan will have to have them and soon after places like the Philippines,Malaysia and Indonesia will feel the need to follow

Why is it up to "us" to "allow" anybody to have nukes? That's so ethnocentric it's laughable. Pakistan has nukes already, btw.

Kim Jong-Un would have to be the dumbest guy on the planet if he didn't try to get nuclear weapons. The USA is absolutely a nuclear threat to his country and the only real defense is having nuclear weapons of his own.
Also, not sure if you wrote the post from 1987 or what, but he already has nukes, anyway.

I think your wrong on this.
Without Nukes, America would reply to threats conventionally, currently under their rules of engagement Nukes would really only be used in the event of an attack using weapons of mass destruction on a ally.
With Nukes the forces dimension completely changes.
But now, Japan will certainly look at a nuclear curtain, especially since North Korea has seemingly reached the warhead stage of their nuclear program. North Korea will probably also now have a SIOP plan dedicated to it.
The minute that you join the nuclear club you open yourself up to being nuked.

There's no such thing as a preemptive strike on NK. Bannon said it perfectly:
Quote:
Top White House official Steve Bannon said Wednesday that there is “no military solution” to North Korea.
“Forget it,” he told American Prospect magazine in an August 16 interview. “Until somebody solves the part of the equation that shows me that ten million people in Seoul don’t die in the first 30 minutes from conventional weapons, I don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s no military solution here, they got us.”
|
NK having nukes strengthens their defensive position, which is all they care about. Now instead of just Seoul being obliterated in a war, they can reach out to more places, further diminishing the appetite for any strikes against them.

North Korea has successfully tested a hydrogen bomb, the country's state broadcaster reported Sunday.
Latest developments:
This is the country's sixth nuclear test.
Earlier, United States Geological Survey detected "possible explosion" that caused a 6.3-magnitude quake.
Tremor was detected in near North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear test site.

The 6.3 Magnitude tremor detected at a #NorthKorea test site would be consistent with the detonation of a hugely powerful Hydrogen Bomb

Just for reference: 5.6 is ~100 kilotons. 6.3 is a megaton. Just using Mb=4.05+.75Log(W). YMMV 3/
Replying to @ArmsControlWonk
6.3 puts us up around a megaton. That would be a staged thermonuclear weapon folks. 4/

Ok, the better equation to use is probably Mb = 1.0125 log (Y) – 0.7875 log (H) + 5.887 where H is depth. 7/

"Us" isn't ethnicity. It's values and beliefs. The people who should have nukes (if anyone) are those who would be reluctant to use them because they value civilian lives.
Maybe it's just the circles I'm in, but I've seen far more concern over Trump having nukes than Obama, by the way.

Who wants to bet that Russia is donating tech to North Korea in order to distract from their election meddling?

Hmm, remind me again who dropped 2 atom bombs on civilian populations?
Value civilian lives? Drone strikes anyone?

I don't doubt that they're getting help from somewhere, this program is advancing generations in months, they've made the leap from simple Bombs to miniaturization to multi-stage devices to miniaturization, they're also moving ahead really fast in terms of their delivery and range.
I think its just as likely that while they might be getting materials from elsewhere, the Russians aren't likely to want to get exposed as a nation marketing in bomb making material.
I believe that the help is more likely coming from the Iranian side of the equation and probably in the form of expertise and personal. It just seems to be more in their playbook.

AQ Khan, but Pakistan doesn't have two stage bombs.
edit: it looks like this last test is estimated at around 120KT. So it looks like North Korea doesn't have them yet either. I wish they would stop calling these hydrogen bombs.

Where did you see 120kt? I've seen all kinds of different reports, some saying in the megaton range which would be a hydrogen bomb.
