The Flames probably don't need to worry much beyond their own division. As it stands right now they seem like a solid bet to finish top-three in the Pacific.

So much hope for the Stars on this board. Look at that defence and they will be lucky to finish 8th in the West.

Will Radulov's give-a-crap meter hold up after year two? To me the term in this deal is the big risk.

Not really, that defence is horribad. I could easily see the the Stars having a top 5 GF and a bottom 5 GA.

I think they're banking on Bishop bailing them out. It worked for the Oilers.

I get the impression ownership is impatient and wants to see a winner. I imagine their conversations with Nill this off-season have gone something like this:
Who's the most accomplished coach available?
Hitchcock.
Sign him.
What was the weakest thing about our team last season?
Goaltending.
Who's the best goalie available?
Bishop.
Sign him.
Who's the best free agent available?
Radulov.
Sign him.

Too bad the owner didn't ask Nill
"Why do we have a bottom 5 defence in the league?"
ouch!

This has got to hurt for Habs fans. Their best goal scorer gone after a great season for the same contract.

Help, save, whatever.
|
Habs can't score goals and just keep losing the players on their team that could actual put up some offence.
Carey is going to have to get 82 shutouts this season.

I'm pretty sure Bergevin lives in a different reality where purple suits look good and trading PK Subban makes sense.

I think they'd probably get in if he only had like 43 or so.

Term is no big deal right now IMO.
Anything over 3 years at this point is not worth worrying about as after 3 more seasons there will probably be another lock out, and when they get things going again there will likely be another round of compliance buy outs for teams to use if they choose.

Radulov played with Pacioretty last year so its not like he was carrying around Byron or other slugs last year. And they'll probably be right up against the cap after they get Faska and Ritchie signed so will be tough to add much of anything.

interesting to hear Radulov saying MTL never offered that contract until after he signed with Dallas...and MTL saying the opposite
not sure who to believe
that said, i think MTL might have botched this one - they've had a very long time to figure something out with Radulov and they didn't. While I am not a fan of the guy, he did a solid job for those guys...
now Drouin simply replaces Radulov rather than adding to his production...one step forward, one step back...

I love this for Dallas.
I really like Radulov but despise the Habs. I watched more of their games this year than any before, just to watch him alone. Pretty happy I can go back to never watching their games ever again and can't wait to see what he can do with the likes of Benn and Seguin potentially on the same line.
I think he'll thrive in Dallas.

One will make $1.17M this season, the other $6.25M.

So the Habs had the exact same offer on the table.
Whats the difference in take home on that contract playing Quebec vs Texas?
