Getting out of Edmonton has to be the best wedding gift Eberle is going to receive. Wonder if a trade was on his registry?

It might have to happen next offseason, when McDavids contract will kick in.

Eberle will be back with a Bang. Ive got a feeling he recovers his game in a big way.

Depends if they plan to play Draisaitl as a C and build a line around him, and have him be their "Malkin".

Sorry I was wrong, Stromes' cap hit is 2.4 million not 1, so its a 4.6 million dollar savings for the Oilers

So far it looks like the Oilers with 12 forwards 5 defensemen and 2 bluelines have a $58 million dollar cap hit.

With Sekeras out long term the Oilers have 4 defensemen who can play.

In terms of resignings, Drasiatl probably at 7.5 Kassian will probably bump to 2.5. A Russell or Russell light at 4 to 4.5

So lets say they add $14.5 so that would take them to about 72 to 73. They would probably still need to add a blueliner. So this deal gets them slightly below the cap.

The year after that, Its the apocalypse for the Oilers with Strome, McDavid, Letestu, Slepyshev, Maroon, Nurse, Benning, Broissoit all needing new deals. So they could potentially be adding about 16 million to their payroll by the time things are said and done, and I doubt the cap is going to go up that much.

First of all, the Oilers are now in the budget business, second of all, I was wrong, They're going to have to find a way to dump some expensive pieces. for nothing. Suddenly Lucic, Poulliot and RNH are pretty damaging contracts.

It really depends on how Eberle does though. If he goes on to light it up now, it will look bad for the Oilers in hindsight.

Chia needs to stop talking to the Islanders, unless he likes being abused

Snow - "Bad GM Bad"

Chia - "Please sir may I have another?"

Ryan Strome isn't anything special, but I think the Oilers did well with this trade. You don't win with players like Eberle. Saves cap space for next season to get McDavid signed.

Ederle makes 6, does he not?

6 - 2.4 is 3.6, not 4.6.

I know a lot on here were Russell haters but what if we signed Stone and Russell and Rus played 3rd pair minutes? I wouldn't hate that and we'd give up far less assets than trading for a dman

Not if Russell wants $4M+ per year.

And that's exactly why the idea of being clutch makes no sense. Eberle has gone from being over-valued as a prospect/young player for how clutch he is to undervalued as a veteran for not being clutch enough in less than 10 years. What exactly happened to Eberle's mental make-up that he can't step his game up anymore?
