it doesn't make sense for them to change the jerseys to what the fans want right now. release the new adidas jersey with very few changes, sell 100,000+ right away and in 2 years work with adidas to release a retro alternate or change them to retro and sell another 100,000+
annoying but smart business sense when you know the demand will always be there to hold off for maximum value

Yup. They basically said just that. Flames fans didn't see him much, because he was acquired during the hot streak and they weren't going to mess with that. High character kid, a winner and someone that could slot up and down the lineup.

One other thing: I was pleasantly surprised at how BT described Shinkaruk's year. Said he was pissed at getting sent down to Stockton, but that is a good thing as it shows his competitiveness. Said it messed him up a bit for the first half, but he had a great second half and post-season. Not sure if that means he is an expansion draft target, as I was worried that maybe he pumped his tires a little too much.

Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Funniest question from a fan was about Ovechkin rumours for Sam Bennett (not true).
Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Brian Burke tells a story about how the Flames called Bennett out of courtesy to dispel the rumours.... (cont'd)
Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Bennett (jokingly) goes "Well, you'd have to look at that trade." Treliving says "It wouldn't be one-for-one, pal."

Yeah, Washington would definitely have to add...

- Will always draft a goalie every other year in the top two rounds
This sounds crowded, but then you think of last summer's RFA culling and you see that the club now sees quicker decisions on draft picks and players in the system to focus development time and money on the right targets.
- Mark Jank will push hard for a spot this year.
Hardly a surprise, and nothing over the top in this, but at least a bit of a good sign that the group has maybe discussed the possibility of him on the team full time next year.
- Brad trying to answer why we're protecting a goaltender and do we have our #4 d in the system. "Good luck trying to pry that out of me" and he feels the #4D isn't under contract at this point. There was some talk about Stone cause he filled the role nicely and helped Brodie but not a lock and he's on a expiring.
First off great to hear that they know they don't have this player, I'd hate a scrape by approach with so many parts of the team ready to compete. I like Stone, a lot, but not at $4M plus, and I still think he fits better in the third pairing.
- Poirier: went to treatment centre for substance abuse, came out completely different and is doing fantastic. Will support him all the way and are excited to see what he brings.
Nothing to say he won't take a misstep again, but better to have a tangible reason for such a rapid decline then having just "lost it". Fingers crossed.

It at least reserves him some more development time and delays decision making about his future.
I'm really hoping this player can turn out to be a bottom 6 energy player for Calgary that sticks. Getting another solid contributor out of that draft would really help the future winning prospects of the team.

Not a ringing endorsement on Klimchuk considering that he was relatively productive in the AHL last season, but it sounds like they are not giving up on him yet. At 22, I would think he would be making a big push.

My only hope now is that at least they got rid of the flags, but I shouldn't hold my breath.

Done.
I dont know why people get their hopes up.
|
Even if all they did was replace the piping with Adidas stripes, and swapped the flags for a shoulder patch, it would be a MASSIVE improvement, and a step in the right direction I could at least be happy with.
But with the rumours months ago that they like the flags, and now King saying it'll be similar, I'm definitely readying myself for dissapointment

I think bringing him up at all unprompted is a very good sign.

It wasn't. Someone in the audience specifically asked the panel about him, Poirier and Shinkaruk.

That changes everything then.
If you ask a guy what prospects had a good year and Klimchuk is mentioned then you're set. If it was prompted he's not going to trash the player.
So back to what Flames Addiction said.

I don't think it's so much that Klimchuk isn't making a push, but rather that I don't think they want to waive the the young, high-upside Shinkaruk, and I imagine they also would rather make the most out of the last year of Lance Bouma. I wouldn't read too much further into it. I personally don't see a fit for Klimchuk next year, but I saw enough last year that gives me confidence he'll make the show in 2017-18 when his waiver-exempt status expires.

For contrast, when asked about drafting goalies and goalie prospects, someone (Treliving?) noted that Mason MacDonald had "stalled" in his development. So the forecast on Klimchuk wasn't completely negative -- he just has some work to do if he wants to make the jump (which I don't think anyone would disagree with).
