He settled right in and looked fantastic. Really gives a guy hope for the future.
Lazar really catches your eye out there. He's got some jump. Nice to see him playing center too.
How fitting was it that Wideman gets sprung on a breakaway and scores the game winner after coming out of the box from that brutal "roughing" call? Man that was a terrible call.

Haven't finished watching the game but just watched Johnny get hooked in the hands again on a breakaway and no call once again. What a joke, what does he have to do to get a call? That's a text book penalty shot.

Johnny needs to wear #97 and change his last name to McDavid and he would get a penalty shot every game.
To be honest, if you look at all the Flames goalies under contract for the next season, and add the fact that Parsens might be hurt by not being graduated to the next level for development purposes, the Flames kind of need Gillies (or someone internally) to take the backup job for next season. If not they may need to let Rittich go for nothing, or try to dump mason Mcdonald for nothing.
In fairness, now that Gillies has played at the NHL level, and played well, it is not a terrible idea to bring him in as backup next season. Elliot has shown to be more of a 55-60 game starter than a 70-75 game starter, so there are starts to be had.
Obviously there's a training camp to be had, but I think that for the number of nets the Flames have available, Gillies as the NHL backup is likely the hope of the organization internally I believe.

he was solid, pretty easy night though
I don't think that is the tome here at all.
I think it is the most logical step to take tho. No goalies signed with NHl experience going into the offseason. Gillies is already 23 years old . I always have been a believer that by 24 a goalie needs to be able to prove they can be a regular nhl player. I think Gillies can be good In a back up goalie postion at least for 1 year. The kids a winner at every level. I think you need to throw goalies his age into the nhl earlier than you would a foreward or defensemen.

Doughty was in his dust. The only reason he doesn't score (or at least draw a penalty) is from stick work.

The Flames have 4 goalies signed:
1. Nick Schneider will be 20 in July and most likely will not be back with Medicine Hat - ECHL?
2. Mason McDonald - graduate to Stockton?
3. Tyler Parsons will be 20 in September and most likely will not be back with London - Stockton?
4. Tom McCollum - Stockton?
The Flames will sign Gillies and will need to slot him somewhere. Will they resign Riddich and where does he play next year? Elliott resigns as the #1 goalie.
This is why I think Gillies will be in Calgary next year.
