Since Matthews and Marner exist, yes there is doubt.
Werenski has also had a fantastic season

Plenty.
They've been equally impressive, but Laine plays the easier position, and has stronger line-mates than Matthews.

Yes. If you actually think it's an obvious choice, try watching hockey when not either high or drunk. Matthews is right beside him and the choice is a subjective toss up, based on personal preference between the positions they play and their relative support. Both are amazing. To think one is a runaway is ridiculous.

Who the hell actually cares about the NHL awards anyways?
Gaudreau didn't win rookie of the year. He's still great. Not winning rookie of the year didn't change that fact.
Whether Laine wins the award or not, it looks like Winnipeg landed the best natural goal scorer to come around since Ovechkin. Be happy with that.

Was the only one who yelled "C" and "RED" at the anthem. Think I've been figured out early

Matthews is right there and has just one less goal. It's not like Laine is far and away the top rookie. Both are impressive, and then there's the other Toronto kids and Tkachuk that are doing better than your typical strong rookie season. Pretty elite rookie class. But no one guy is dominating the rest.

I don't watch many Red Wings games, but is there a worse defence in the league than Detroit's?

The Flyers and Capitals are in overtime tied 1-1. Both teams scored early in the third period and that is a big point for the Flyers.
Gagner scored for the BJs to make it 3-2 Senators but that was it, Ottawa wins.
The other big game in the east had the Lightning win in the shootout 2-1.

Unless Laine is materially ahead of Matthews at seasons end, then Matthews wins the Calder - the Toronto factor.
