Any word that Benning thought he was getting Ulf Dahlen?
Seriously though, that is a bit of a rip job on the Sens.

Good move for the Canucks. Who knows if Dahlen will pan out, but if we traded a comparable (Dube?), I would be pissed.

This trade has me absolutely laughing as an Avs fan. Dorion and Melnyk have been whiny idiots, running to the media to talk about how Duchene's asking price is too high, that teams are trying to fleece them for Lazar...then they do this. Awesome.

More like he thought he was getting Rasmus Dahlin, a strong candidate for 1st OA in the 2018 draft...

thank god. The thought of Burrows wearing Flames silks is nothing but disgusting.
Dahlen looks like a good prospect. Not too worried though, it's the Canucks after all.

False.
I hate Burrows as much as many and I don't like saying anything good about him either, but his skating is the one and only thing that he has left that is still passable as an NHLer.

Rick Dhaliwal @DhaliwalSports
Of all the teams that that called #Canucks about Burrows, Ottawa was the only one who offered extension.

There's reason for the Benning "there are two .... meme".
The big star for the Swedes in the WJC was RASMUS DAHLIN.
Though it looks like Jonathan Dahlen had a decent tournament, stats wise, but I don't remember too much about him in the games I watched.
Maybe Benning can fool the Canuck faithful into thinking they acquired Rasmus.

I just don't get why any team would be trading a recent 2nd round pick (who is trending decently) for Burrows.

Am I missing something here? Why would Ottawa commit $5 million to this guy given his declining production and bad reputation? Flames got Versteeg off the street and he's been more productive.

Well it's also the same team that thought re-signing him to a two year extension is a good idea.
Some things we'll never understand.

Melnyk is probably hoping for 2 rounds of playoff hockey to make some $$.

The Sweden 1st Division actually has a fairly surprising success rate for producing NHL players. There are not a lot of players drafted out of Swe-1, but a lot of them do go on to make an NHL impact. Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Mattias Ekholm, Filip Forsberg, and Alexander Weinberg are all Swe-1 alumni.
This is a good deal for the Canucks. Chances are good that they manage to ruin it somehow.

Yeah I don't get the need to extend him right away.
He's a year older than Glencross, and was less productive than Glencross was in his final season in the NHL.
These veterans are guys you can pick up for league minimum in the offseason, not sure why $2.5M was needed here.

I don't really understand this trade from a Sens perspective. Usually, they love their Swedes in Ottawa.

The Atlantic is weak. Any one of Habs/Sens/Leafs/Bruins could emerge and win a couple of rounds. Doesn't make them particularly good, but it might be worth picking up a player or two. Just not Burrows. Ever.

So was that guy named Mikael Backlund, and he was no where close to PPG in his time in that league.
