I agree that Iginla shouldn't be playing above the third line at this stage of his career however if we can replace Brouwer with Iginla, we would be able to improve our 3rd line (and maybe even get Bennett and power play one going), and simultaneously drop a lot of dedicated salary that will be crucial in retaining Backlund, Tkachuk, Bennett, Stone, and adding a guy like Ben Bishop in net.
On another note, it's possible Shane Doan, rather than Iginla, is Treliving's guy, as there is a history there. I would welcome Doan as much as Iggy.

I am not convinced he would want to come back to Calgary and I don't know if the distraction of his return would be good for our playoff run or not. I do think that he us still better overall than how Chiasson and Brouwer are playing right now so that makes me think if he was available on the cheap maybe 4th or 5th round pick or an undesirable going back the other way he's worth considering. My heart says yes but I would rather see him go to a team that has a legitimate cup chance. Other than Pittsburgh who had him already Washington, Chicago, Rangers come to mind.

No kidding. Though it is an Iggy thread after all.
Not many other topics would get you to circle back around after the patented one-liner drive by.

There has been some chatter about Chicago looking for someone to bolster their bottom six. Might be a good fit.

If Iggy can get a move, I want it to be to a team with a good chance of winning the Cup.
So, no.
I don't want to see him move back to Calgary.

No. Not just no, but #### no. Iginla doesn't supplant ANYONE on this roster. Iginla doesn't improve this roster in any way. Iginla is NOT going to be an improvement on Brouwer or Chaisson. Both those guys are cast in roles to play in the dirty spaces and score ugly goals/points. Iginla doesn't play that game anymore. He hasn't played that game in over a decade. He would not be capable of playing that role and would not fit in the system.
Iginla has also turned into a PP specialist. He has turned into a half wall player, which is not very useful to the Flames. If you think Iginla is coming in to take that job, then you're taking Johnny Hockey off the ice. Again, Iginla just doesn't fit into the system. He doesn't have the speed, he doesn't have the skill, and he doesn't play the type of game this team wants to ice. Iginla is a terrible fit.
Frankly, the team that best suits Iginla is the Oilers. They play a very loose system where he might actually flourish. Plus, every goal he's costs them, and he's more of a liability out there than anyone here wants to admit, they have McJesus to throw out there and hope he can get the goal right back. I kind of hope that is where Iginla ends up, because he will be a hindrance to them winning and it may finally put and end to all of these asinine demands to bring Iginla back.

I just do t think Iginla has the chops to play a big role any more. I agree he doesn't play better than the bigger guys who posters complain about right now. Plus his salary causes problems, even short term, and you have to convince the Avs to take a bunch of salary back.

I want it to happen. If it doesn't, no biggie. But I think it would be exciting. Don't think he'd have any effect on the ice, but for the casual fan it would be a big plus.

Haha, I was waiting for over-the-top response by the usual suspect, not disappointed.
I wonder how many have actually watched a significant number of Avs games this season. It's tough to do it, because they suck so bad.

Some people take things way too seriously. As someone who enjoys the entertainment of the game, how would more entertainment not occur with Iggy?
I don't expect a cup run this year. An entertaining playoffs push followed by a round of playoffs would be reasonable. That would be more entertaining, have more exciting storylines and generate more special memories with Iggy on the roster than without.

Over-the-top? Please tell me where my assessment of Iginla and his fit on this team are wrong.

Washington should acquire Iginla for the leadership and to get a guy who has been to a game 7. Although they do have Justin Williams now so maybe it isn't needed

Bring him back for cheap but expect him to be a 4th line player (effectively replacing Chaisson) who can give you another look on the PP. If the Flames do bring him back I hope they acquire another winger who can play in the top 6 so the team can slot everyone in the right position.
If the Flames could pull this off they'd have a lot of depth and coverage for injuries.

I totally understand why you'd hate it. any normal flames fan would.
but it would really ruin the love you've had for him as a player? just playing a handful of games at the end of his career?
I honestly don't understand that part of it.
