I would call slashimg some one with a stick pretty intentional.

Of course it was intentional. What it was not, however, is deliberate attempt to injure.

I know but I don't count the games the arbitrator took away. At the end of the day it was 10 which was fair, 20 was the NHL being stupid.

NHL makes the 10 game suspension official:

Chris Kuc @ChrisKuc
Antoine Vermette's 10-game suspension will cost him $97,222.22.

Well it would be nice to have another case of the NHL being angry at a Pacific team.

Vermette: Wasn't me. Can't prove I did it.

Bettman: Then who is this in this video?

Vermette: .....

I don't really see where they have grounds to appeal. This is the rule...
Quote:
Automatic Suspension – Category I - Any player who deliberately strikes an official and causes injury or who deliberately applies physical force in any manner against an official with intent to injure, or who in any manner attempts to injure an official shall be automatically suspended for not less than twenty (20) games. (For the purpose of the rule, “intent to injure” shall mean any physical force which a player knew or should have known could reasonably be expected to cause injury.)

Automatic Suspension – Category II - Any player who deliberately applies physical force to an official in any manner (excluding actions as set out in Category I), which physical force is applied without intent to injure, or who spits on an official, shall be automatically suspended for not less than ten (10) games.

Automatic Suspension – Category III - Any player who, by his actions, physically demeans an official or physically threatens an official by (but not limited to) throwing a stick or any other piece of equipment or object at or in the general direction of an official, shooting the puck at or in the general direction of an official, spitting at or in the general direction of an official, or who deliberately applies physical force to an official solely for the purpose of getting free of such an official during or immediately following an altercation shall be suspended for not less than three (3) games.

It didn't go far enough to warrant a Category I suspension, but it seems to clearly fall into Category II. According to the rules, Bettman can only reduce the suspension if he rules it should be a Category III suspension. The only way that would seem justified is if he decides that slashing a linesman is equivalent to throwing your stick and isn't physical force.

Please God, let there be another Wideman Effect coming to the Ducks that ends the Honda Centre curse!

Vermette should appeal it by just yelling "fake news" over and over.

It would suck if we finally broke that streak on the backs of crooked reffing.

Don't get me wrong, it would still feel good. It just wouldn't feel...electric.

How many times have the Flames lost in that freaking building because they got jobbed on some phantom call that Getzlaf or Selanne converted on? Screw the ducks, I'll take a win in that house of horrors any way it comes.

The Vermette and Wideman Effects would probably just end up cancelling each other out anyway.

Doug MacLean says suspension to be cut to 5 games. I can only imagine such a decision comes with the NHLOA's blessing.

I doubt Vermette sent any text messages after this incident.

I call absolute B.S. on DM. The appeal hasn't even been processed yet. By my understanding to reduce to 5 games, Bettman would have to decide it falls under Category 1 instead and then add two games. That would absolutely make him look like an idiot as it was very obviously a Category 2 offence.
