30 years ago Canmore was a rundown dump with no amenities. And the Crowsnest Pass isn't any further away than the Windermere Valley, which has been a Calgary vacation home hot spot since forever.

Canmore would still be a rundown dump if it was 2.5 hours from Calgary. I lived there and have many long time friends that were born and raised there. It was a booming place in the late 70's and 80's and was pretty decent but it's been on a long decline over the last 25 years. I lived there and go back to visit friends periodically. I don't hate it but most city folk will in short time because of the extreme wind, isolation, and lack of things to do.

With Lethbridge growing so quickly, Crowsnest will become a bigger weekend retreat for Southern Albertans. 2.5 hours from Calgary, and real estate 2-3X cheaper than Canmore. 71 km from Blairmore to Fernie.

BC has strict rules and high fees for Alberta fisherman - great fishing around Castle and Oldman/Livingstone. Castle Mountain is an undiscovered gem.

It probably will never rival Canmore/Banff, but I see it becoming the poor man's Rocky Mountain weekend retreat. The Bow Valley has only so much capacity, and Banff can't have further growth at all.

Always thought Blairemore had some real potential. Some big properties being built or done along the back side of it heading up the mountain on the south side.

It's just not as scenic through there. Even the actual pass feels like a frontage range. Have to go down to Waterton/Glacier to even get close to matching Banff/Kananaskis.

Do you any idea of what the Old Man Reservoir is like for boating? I'm assuming it doesn't come close to Windermere BC but is it good for skiing or wake boarding?
