1) Orr by a landslide
2) Lanny. He was the Flames for a while and although not necessarily my favorite player on the ice, have to put him here for the prime spot he holds in my memory bank.
3) Phil Esposito - wanted to be him when I grew up.
But Iginla should be there too. Amazing player and he was incredibly nice to my kid.
HM's to the Roadrunner, Park, Ratelle, Middleton, Loob

Side note, how can Flames fans put Bure (as great of a player as he was), in their top 3 for '94 alone?

Theuren Fleury
I edited and swapped in Fleury for McDonald. My opinion of Fleury has been soured, but thinking back about about how much I loved that guy in his day I had to make the change.

#3 would have been Kipper if goalies were included. Mullen wasn't with the team long enough to be considered, but it is a damned shame #14 isn't hanging in the rafters.
Retired numbers should be about what guys did for the team on the ice full stop - their personalities, politics or relationship with team ownership shouldn't figure in.

1. Guy Lafleur (I was a kid, but no player then or since has given me goosebumps like that guy. And he was pure class. I remember a young boy got stabbed in Calgary. He was wearing his Habs Lafleur shirt when it happened. Thankfully he survived. Lafleur or the Habs arranged for the kid to go to Montreal to watch a game. Before it, Lafleur promised the boy a goal. When interviewed after the game, Lafleur said he felt nervous about that promise. I think he scored two.
Lafleur is my hockey hero.
2. Iggy. What more can be said about him? The face of the Flames and he dragged us out of some very very dark times. For too long, he was the only reason to watch the Flames, especially if you were an opposing fan and interested in seeing more than two points. I am so sorry he hasn't won the Cup. If there were to be an all star team of those that never won the cup in their career, he for me would be the greatest and my choice as Captain.
3. Kent Nilsson - our first superstar. He was the magic man and the excitement he created when he was 'on' was incredible. I remember being really upset after seeing a picture of him on the front page of the Sun smiling from a hospital bed because he would be out for months.

1. Howe. My small boy hero. 2. Gretzky. I lived in Northern AB in my youth and early adulthood. He was unbelievable. 3. Orr. Was a big bad Bruins fan before Edmonton had a team.
Sorry, no Flames there. But been here in Cgy since 93 and a seasons ticket holder since late 90's. Bleed Flames red now. Kipper. Iggy. Waiting another few years to add one of Johnny, Mony, Bennett, Hamilton or Tkachuk to that list.
