If he sticks to his NMC is he resigned to retirement?
He doesn't look good on this roster, it's not helping his cause.

I am with you with that realization!
Wideman's gaffes leading to 2 on 1s are making a trade next to impossible.
Not to mention his Feaster NMC.
Only hope is a Treliving wizardry deadline trade like: Jones for Backstrom+6th rounder

I feel this thread is still lacking the obligatory...
Tyler Johnson, but it has to happen now to make sense.

The offer is nothing, they have taken it. They've been taking it for the last two years!

People can't equate the years prior with this year as to why Treliving couldn't trade Wideman. A 5.25 million dollar contract with a NMC and years remaining is different than an expiring one in which 2/3rds has been paid by the Flames and the cap hit is around 1.3 million at the deadline.
So yeah, Treliving couldn't trade Wideman last year. That doesn't mean he can't this year

I was simplifying my statement for the purpose of a witty (see: not witty) reply. He was untradeable before because of years remaining, he's currently still untradeable now due to....nobody's taking someone this horribad who also brings a penalty grenade with his name.

Expiring contract that has mostly been paid makes it more likely. Teams want dmen, even if it is depth.

I really feel that I'm watching a different Dennis Wideman than people who talk about him having value as a playoff depth pick up. Like that guy we watched tonight wearing number 6, that's the guy we're talking about right?

I could see the flames dumping Widemand for future considerations to go after another player at the deadline - like dmitry kulikov for example. Would be a decent defensive partner for brodie. And if he likes it here, i could see the flames re-signing him after the expansion draft

I've just come to the realization that one of the most annoying aspects about Dennis Wideman outside of his constant mistakes, is the fact that he cheats the game all the time.
Look at the 1st and 3rd goals tonight. He constantly relies on tying up sticks instead of using body position or hard work. On the first one, he ties up Henrique's stick behind the net and puck watches while Henrique scores an easy wrap around. On the third goal he takes a bad penalty by taking the net out instead of doing the right thing, which is boxing out and defending the man in front of the net.
He cheats the game because he's lazy. For a veteran player with a lot of younger teammates, that's unacceptable. He's a detriment to the team and a bad influence to the hard workers and kids on the team.

I would imagine that Treliving is just taking his time, waiting for the right deal. Hopefully a few teams will get into a bidding war. Don't be surprised if this one goes right to the deadline.

Bidding war. Are you joking? A bidding war for quite likely the worst skater in the NHL and one of the worst defensemen in the league. Not happening.

I will be very surprised if Wideman is moved at this point. He has a few weeks of games left to maybe raise his stock, but so far it just seems like he's gonna tank it instead.
If the Flames cannot move him at the deadline, they better just sit his ass in the pressbox for the rest of the season because while he might be a good locker room guy, he's putrefying the on-ice product hard.

I don't think any team in the west will do the Flames any favours and trade for him. He is terrible and GG keeps playing him. Let one of the kids play, at least they will improve (most likely) instead of degrade.
I would be very surprised if we get anything, not even another teams bad contract.
If Treliving can trade this guy for any asset I'll be very impressed.

I would like to remind people that the exact same conversation was being had here last season, regarding one Kris Russell.
I know, Wideman isn't as good as Russell, and his contract is worse, etc
But again I will remind you that many people last year said Russell was untradeable, had negative value, and that we would be lucky to get a 4th for him.
Some of us argued that defensemen have value at the deadline and he would fetch at least a 2nd, maybe a couple of 2nds, or a 2nd and a 3rd. In the end, he fetched a 2nd, a young, roster-playing bottom pairing Dman, and a prospect.
I am not sure that they'll get a 2nd for Wideman, but it is far from out of the question. If there's a team out there that thinks they need a right hand shot for the PP, he'll have some value.
I think the bigger question is: will the Flames be sellers at all, and I am not sure they will.
