The Flames also weren't at (/near) their best for 50 ish minutes. If this game took place last week I bet you'd be coming away with a different impression.

The first few minutes when they were on they sure had TB hemmed in impressively. They just need to get back to that level of play for a near full 60 minutes.

I've said this before, but how "good" a team is, isn't based on how well they can play. Even the worst teams can play well in stretches. The best teams play just as good as the mediocre ones, but playing well more consistently.

No team plays "60 minute hockey" every game. If Calgary wants to be in the dance there simply needs to be fewer nights like this than there has been IMO.

Meh. They were gonna lose some time. May as well be a loss that serves as a wake up call.

Over the past month they have shown material improvement and that needs to continue. I think it will so am content to write last night off as one of those nights, whereas earlier in the season these kind of performances had me questioning any emotional investment in the team.

I've been thinking for the last couple games that Johnson looked a little shakey and should probably get a rest. I don't get the "play him til he blows it" ideal. How about, play him an adequate amount and use your perfectly capable other goalie to give the guy a game or two off.

Should have had Elliott in against Coyotes IMO.

The Flames arguably had one night "like this" in its last 10 games going into tonight. And yet that's not consistent enough for you?

And, somehow, Tampa Bay is a measuring stick team to you despite having a worse record than the Flames and coming in with 2 wins in its last 10. Clearly they're better than their recent record but your logic that you've laid out here is severely flawed. Just saying.

One loss and it's like you've completely forgotten the vast improvement from game to game that the team has shown over the past month.

Oh no, we suck again! /greentext

Just watched the highlights, looks like Johnson was severely screened on a number of those goals. Tampa did a nice job of getting traffic in front, but Calgary contributed to the screens just as much if not moreso. That will be something to work on in practice.

There's no doubt there were far too many games like this in the first month of the season and it's the reason the team was in such a big hole. As of late nights like this have been fewer. IMO they got a little too relaxed after the three game break and didn't have the energy they had prior. I do agree that the best teams don't allow themselves to become complacent but I don't think this is one of the best teams in the league so while I'm disappointed with last night's effort I'm not totally surprised as this is the least disciplined team in the league so if they take a night off it means that things will snowball with all the penalties they take. I would hope after last night they are no longer thinking about how good they were in the six game winning streak and get back to the basics.

No puck luck, bad penalties and Johnson was handcuffed for the most part. Start the same lineup on Friday and watch them win. This was just a bad, ugly game.

Nasty loss, but winning streaks must come to an end at some point. Just a disappointing game considering how badly the Flames dominated the first half of period #1 then just kind of faded away afterwards.

Hopefully the team and regroup and come out hard vs the BJs.

Not too worried about Johnson. All good goalies have stinkers. With that being said, the team playing in front of him looked like they really took the foot off the gas after that PPG in the first

The Flames need to trade for 1 more defenceman.

Wideman's minutes need to be sheltered. Jokipakka is playing too soft and he's slow. Engelland is the perfect bottom pairing guy. But to have all 3 of them dressed is a weakness. People will hate for me to say this but Kris Russell would be nice to have in the lineup right now.

I think we need to see if the Flames were on a streak or whether there was"permanent" improvement. Every team goes through streaks so let's see how the next 10 games play out.

The Flames already have the highest paid defense in the entire league. No team is capable of having 6 star defenseman. Our bottom pairing is just as good or better than most other teams.

3 days off during a 6 game win streak against a team that was hungry for a win. That's a recipe for disaster.

People need to chill. You already look like fools for counting the Flames out earlier in the season and now after 1 loss some of you are back to the same garbage posting.

I don't think the Flames played that badly. TB had three long pinball goals from the blue line, and the Flames had one. At times, Calgary had great possession and scoring chances. Sometimes the breaks go the other way.

Maybe take a higher road? The Flames have certainly gotten back into it but are a long ways from declaring victory.

I think the 4 minute Hamilton penalty really messed with the momentum of the game.
