I have a hard time associating the 2003/2004 run with the worst moment ever. Even the losing was a good memory in many ways after so much success that year.
It's the same way that the worst moment in New England Patriots' history is losing Super Bowl 42. They went 16-0 that year, with an average winning margin of 20 points. They handled the first two playoff games to have a chance at being the first 19-0 team. They had five 1st team all pros, and four 2nd team all pros. Brady had 50 TD passes, and Moss had 23 TD receptions. This was the greatest NFL team ever.
And then the 4th quarter happened. The helmet catch was awful, as a Patriots fan, but I watched the 4th quarter again one time to punish myself. There were so many moments in that quarter that if they went the other way, the Pats would have won. Nothing for me as a sports fan is as crushing as that game.
The worst Flames moment for me is 2006, Game 7. We would have been the top seed remaining if we won, as 1, 2, and 4 lost in the opening round. We would have gotten to play the Oilers in round two. That would have been outstanding. Instead, we had to watch Edmonton play hockey for the rest of the season. Thankfully Carolina beat them in the SCF.

In order of heart break
1. Watching the puck float over Mike Vernon against LA in slow motion, with his itty bitty arms not able to just reach up and grab it.
2. Marcus Nilson's chance in OT against the bolts in Game 6. Tipped the puck on net - and was going in until Khab got his shoulder on it. I replay that moment over and over in my head - that was a Stanley Cup winning overtime goal happening, with me in the building. But it didn't happen.
3. Esa Tikanen's goal. Hated that team so much, and it was such a choke job.
4. The Bure overtime goal.
5. The Ray Whitney San Jose overtime goal. I worked at a video store at the time, and locked the door and trashed a bunch of shelves and threw VHS movies around. I was so mad.
6. Jiri Hrdina getting traded for Jim Kyte. Was devestated
7. Doug Gilmour quitting on his team. Never forgave him for that.
8. Hearing that Brad McCrimmon had died in the KHL plane crash/Hearing that Mikey Renaud had suddenly died.

When I think 'worst moment', I think of worst feeling I've ever had as a Flames fan. I have a few.
- I am/was a huge Gary Roberts fan. My sister went to school with his daughter, I had his autographed jersey etc etc etc. Anyways, I was devastated when he retired at 30, but even more devastated when he was traded to Carolina after coming back.
- 03/04, as many have said. Game 6 sucked, I was angry and stunned at MSL scoring in OT. But Game 7, was an absolute back breaker. It wasn't even a sudden hurt, it was this empty feeling when you saw the clock tick down to zero. I was working at my family's restaurant at the time, and it was obviously dead that night. I remember everybody in the restaurant surrounding the TV in the lounge, and just silence...
- Iginla being traded. I knew it was coming by a country mile, but it still hurt seeing one of my favorite players ever leaving. End of an era.
On the corollary, some of the proudest moments
- Going to any game with my dad as a kid. Always got a happy meal on the way down, great seats thanks to the restaurant group my dad was part of, and then all the treats in the world to watch. Those games fostered my love for the game, and this was during the late 80s/early 90s.
- 03/04 in general, and also 2 particular moments. Gelinas scoring in Game 6 to put us past Detroit. I've never screamed so hard in my life. And then Monty in against SJ in OT Game 1.
- Tribute to Iginla after he was traded. I was at the game with my wife. I'm not going to lie. I cried. I think almost the whole Dome cried that tribute. It was moving to see everybody feel the same thing I did that night.

Game seven against the Bolts. Realized we weren't going to win while at the bar I worked at waiting for my girlfriend to show up. She phoned during the second intermission to tell me that not only was she not going to make it, but she realized she just wasn't into me anymore. Third period felt like it was never going to end and the flames had no chance.
Yes that actually happened

This happened with the Flames secure in a playoff position and within days of them embarking on an awesome first-round trouncing of the Vancouver Canucks.
I was in Norway at the time it happened, and didn't find out until the following morning. Quite to the contrary I rather remember it being one of the most hilarious moments of my life. My Helsinki roommate and I laughed our asses off all day.

It is rather ironic, given I am far more of a team/owner guy than a player/union guy, but once you understand the back story to that, it becomes much easier to understand Gilmour's actions.
Losing your team must be the worse. Nordiques, Jets, Browns, Colts, Rams etc.
I'd say you limit it to actual moments that happened in games. Either heartbreaking or face-in-hands embarrassing. In the latter category this has to be tough to top.

But yeah, in the moment? F that loser.
Don't to get into an argument about it - but in my opinion there is never ever enough reason quick on your team.
Just about anything positive happening with the Oilers makes my life as a Flames fan miserable. 05-06 cup run and all things McSaviour as the most recent.

In almost any scenario, I'm right there with you. I'm glad Joe Nieuwendyk didn't get his number retired for that reason. But when the arbitrator of your contract dispute is schmoozing with team management right before the hearing and the league president is sending the arbitrator letters in a bid to influence the hearing, that might be the one exception. The Flames, the NHL and John Ziegler were probably lucky this all happened at the tail end of the Alan Eagleson days, because someone like Bob Goodenow almost certainly would have gone after them hard on tampering charges.
Calgary's best teams were in the mid 1980s to early 1990s.
So, I'd say the losses to MTL in 1986, LA in 1990, EDM in 1988 and Tikkanen in 1991 were the worst.
2004 stings, but our 1989 team should have won more than once.
This is my opinion too.
So many "chokes" and just not coming thru when it mattered in the several years after '89, and for me this is the one that broke me hard as a Flames fan.
I remember just standing there looking at my TV and being completely dumbfounded, and then hollering "Not again!"
It was painful, especially after the OT loss to the Kings in '90, and the OT loss to the Canucks in '94, it was like a painful reality that this team was never going to win the big game again.

Mine was the goal in double OT in '94 by Bure , I was 20 and lived in BC surrounded by annoying Canucks Fans (like there is any other kind) I wanted to find a hole and crawl in it.
Losing to Anaheim in 14-15. I knew they weren't gonna beat the ducks but that season was just so much damn fun, I didn't want it to end. The. Corey perry of all people in that damn Honda Center. Just killer.
