Chad Johnson is good. He's a very calming influence.
I still expect Elliott toe rise to the challenge, but the team also seems to play differently in front of each goalie. Sort of like how McElhinney always got hung out to dry when he played.

These 5PM games suck. By the time I get home from work and get on the couch to relax its halfway through the 2nd period.
Having said that, good game to watch the end of! Go Flames Go!
Get a PVR. You can skip through commercials, intermissions, and between whistles. If the game is great, continue watching. If the game sucks, then hit the fast forward button.
Early games are awesome.

The problem here is Elliot seemed to let an early ( like 2 minutes or less ) complete turd of a goal in... THEN the team loses all faith in him and play awful.
I think he's a good goalie with confidence issues on a good team with confidence (and coaching) issues. He could certainly get the starting role back or be a rock solid backup. In the end, thanks to Johnson, it's not a huge problem.

McBackup's exactly who I've been thinking of as well when it comes to how the team seems to play in front of Elliott. I remember him finally getting his first win like twenty years in to his time here and it was a big franchise-wide celebration where they pied him in the face after the game.
Onto the Stockton game now! Good win even if it did get hairy at times. Hopefully GG doesn't get too tinker-happy after this one. They're finally starting to develop some chemistry.
Also, I really liked how the Flames didn't make any egregious defensive zone mistakes like they did early in the season and like the Jackets did late. They're playing a lot more responsibly and it shows. Monahan's pass that got turned the other way (and got Versteeg crushed) was the biggest gaffe of the night. Wideman's pinch on the PP would have been worse but he was able to pull it off. Full credit to him on that play.

I have a PVR, but honestly, it feels impossible in this day and age. Radio has it on, phone updates, etc. Im just complaining that I missed what seems like a good game.
Props to Stajan on the first goal while going for a line change made sure he got onside first with the blue line being so close to the bench door. Usually players just lazily go to the door and stay off side. He skated hard, made sure he was onside and then made the change. That goal doesn't happen if he isn't paying attention.

Remind me again that this last draft, where we took Pld over Jesse, and now seeing that Tkachuk has 5 goals and 4 assist in 17 games , was the right move . Totally was oblivious to what Tkachuk had done this season .
Good Guy Torts

After meeting Torts yesterday I got a call from the owner of my store (who is friends with Torts' wife) who told me that Torts got me two free tickets for the game tonight. I've only been able to see one game on tv this year due to a lack of cable so I'm extremely excited to finally see my team in person this year.
All right! They suck!

I am starting to believe they don't want to be one of the good better teams. Monday could have moved up by beating a bad team, same tonight and it's looks like the second coming of last years team.

Monahan is beating cbj up on the faceoffs
Quote:
They only managed to get set up in the 1-3-1 twice, I think, and the only decent opportunities came off of those instances. I feel like they still have an issue entering the zone on PPs and especially getting set up, which I think is just a small flaw with the 1-3-1 – there’s no extra man back at the point so there’s less pressure release valves until you get set up.
It kind of emphasized the importance of faceoffs in the offensive zone on PPs – sure, faceoffs aren’t important long term but I think especially in those situations, with this system, they’re valuable. The one I remember them winning resulted in almost immediately getting set up in the 1-3-1 and getting some good movement, if nothing else.
Quote:
Sucks that two brutal turnovers lead to both their goals. Also what's with Johnson owning Columbus? I think he is now 5-0 and his GAA and SV% is solid.
Quote:
They were forcing things way too much. Focusing too much on improving the stats that are "underwhelming", and not playing the game that worked when they were winning. Get back to that CBJ, or this season will get turned on it's head real fast. Tonight was a disaster against a team that should have been an easy win. Sigh

Easily the worst game of the season. Probably worst game since the beginning of last season. Bad discipline, bad passes, bad shots. A lot of calls didn't go our way sure, but that's not an excuse for the terrible play as a whole tonight. Let's hope the guys can click together during the road trip.
