It will be interesting to see how the party that has no ideas does with all three parts of the government. I'm thinking that the Dems may take the house in 2 years.

With the domination of the house, senate and presidency, you're going to see so much gerrymandering to limit the ability of democrat election in the house and senate and presidency. They figured out how to rig the elections and have carte blanche to go at it even more.
RIP American democracy.

I actually think it might be better in some ways.
The "deplorables" can go back to their lives and Fox News can keep telling them what a great job Trump is doing. They will feel vindicated and can live blissfully in ignorance.
If they had lost, it probably would have fueled the hate and conspiracy theories more.

There is one question that blows me away and really makes me think that people are just too dumb to vote.
effect of international trade:
42% of people say it takes away jobs. It is incredible that people actually believe that when probably all jobs either directly or indirectly a result of international trade. Do they want to be North Korea?

I seriously cannot believe how stupid Americans are.
Oh well, guess living in a Democracy gives them that right.
The next 4 years will be very interesting, but I don't think much good is going to happen.
Just thinking about his surrogates who are going to get jobs, and the Supreme Court makes me ill.
Feel so sorry for the non bigots there.

It's because jobs lost to automation are lumped into jobs lost with change.

Im interested with what trump will do with his staff. Is it really the Newt, Rudy, and Flynn club that stuck with him or does he actually hire some good people.

Cuba announced nationwide military exercises for the 7th time since 1980 in reaction to Trump's victory.

I don't know why they are upset. Trump loves to spend money there.

I wonder how health care will play out. The only thing worse than Obamacare was where things were before Obamacare. It was bad mostly because of comprises and court challenges. Basically the Republicans tried everything they could to make it fail.
Now that they seemingly would have control to fix it, do they actually do something to improve upon it and then end up making themselves look good by building something that works better and gets more people insured? Or do they go back to 20 million more people not having health care?

I think people have a legitimate reason to be concerned.
Trump has promised to nominate SC that will repeal Roe v. Wade. If you are pro-birth I guess that's fine but the vast majority of Americans don't feel that way.
Trump has proposed that NAFTA will be torn up. If you want to throw the Canadian economy into a tailspin, even temporarily, than that's fine. Otherwise, there's reason for concern.
Trump wants to cut taxes on the rich and sink the US economy (and the world economy as a result) into another recession. If that floats your boat that's cool. Otherwise, there is a real reason to be nervous.
These are just three of his campaign promises that the "sore losers" are concerned about. All we can hope for is that he is a yuge liar and doesn't follow through on most of his campaign promises.

From an American stand point, its the correct move to tear up "NAFTA".
Last point is simply not correct.
Trump is radically different for sure.

He ran a campaign on open bigotry and supportive of sexual assault. He has demonstrated nothing but ignorance of international law and disdain for the US Constitution. The only disgusting posts to be found are those like yours defending this racist deviant.

First, congratulations to the Trump team. This must have been like opening that box on Christmas day to find the present you honestly didn't think anyone heard you ask for. The spin doctors were all but giving up leading into the evening's coverage, and then, boom. The Trump team did a spectacular job tapping into the demons which lurk in the hearts of white America and using that to drive voters to the polls. Conversely, the work done to blunt the enthusiasm of the dem GOTV was another great success. Overall, it was a very good campaign that you ran.
Now, on to the issues.

This was obviously said by someone that does not understand how the system works. Changing presidents doesn't change the institutions. If you want real change, you have to go all Shakespeare and kill all the lawyers. You need to clean house and vote everyone out of office. This was not an election focused at changing anything, other than the guy that will be the face of the country and be considered out social, moral and ethical leader. The influence the president has over domestic affairs is so limited that a change in that role is going to have a limited effect. To change that you have to eliminate the returning members of congress.
It is also said by someone who does not understand the core message of Donald Trump's campaign. He is not an agent of change. He is an agent of regression. He appeals to all of those old white folks who have lost all of their manufacturing jobs, and are watching their white entitlement fade away, by promising them to take America back to the 1950's. This isn't about change. Where is the forward looking vision? Where is the plan to change the economy from one based of a failing hydrocarbon molecule to something else? Where is the vision in dealing with the failing entitlement programs, that his supporters will milk dry and leave empty for the future? Where is the message of change, other than he's going to go to Washington and kick some ass, making it terrific again?

Hopefully American democracy gets itself sorted out quickly. It's going to be painful for a lot of the political elites, but it's going to happen.

Really? What political elites were affected last night? Did Chuck Grassley lose his seat? Rand Paul? Pat Toomey? Tim Scott? Mark Rubio? Lisa Murkowski? John ####ing McCain? And on and on and on? This was not a referendum on change in Washington. Anyone saying that is completely uninformed or is looking for a contrite talking point to try and coverup what really just happened. The political elites almost all stayed intact last night. Nothing in Washington changes, no matter how hard people want to try and make themselves feel better with the disaster that just took place.
The American people spoke last night, and I respect that action. But I think they spoke on emotional terms and not pragmatic terms. Joseph de Maistre really hit the nail on the head when he said, and I'm paraphrasing, "Every country has the government it deserves and in a democracy people get the leaders they deserve." The American people got both with this vote. I just hope they can deal with the results and the reaction from the rest of the world.

What is actually scary about this election result is that the Republicans control both houses and the presidency. Everyone up here in Canada who screamed about how regressive and evil Harper was are going to learn over the next four years what regressive-right government really looks like.
