He got a video tribute at the dome for his first game back. He is probably the guy with the least amount of games to get that from the org. Treliving also praised him big time when the trade happened

Umm most were constantly calling him a bum that only blocked shots all year. If anything that let up a little as soon as he got traded.

All anti-Oilers jokes aside, McDavid will be the best player in the league by far one day. You don't need to be an Oilers fan to see that.

I'd already put the kid top 5-8 in the league, and he's only 19.

Everyone loved him. For 2.8 million a year.

That is a far cry from the kind of dollars he was asking (I believe 5.5 million with term).

That is when the risk of Kris Russell far outweighed the reward.

I am not oblivious to his abilities. He is really good and I am jealous that the dang oilers got him, but he still needs to earn it. how many games has he played now? Like 55?

Sorry but he needs to earn accolades, not have them given to him because of the minimal games he has played and the success he has had.

Right I get that.

But even with the minimal number of games under his belt, scoring 57 points in 52 games at the age of 18/19 is no small feat. This kid skates through teams like nobody is there. He makes his teammates better and knows how to find the back of the net. I'm not saying he's the best player in the league (yet), but he sure as hell deserves credit.

What accolades does he need to earn? An Oiler reporter thinking he'll be the best player in the league soon?

Is not like anyone is giving him any awards here

Until he outscores Kane, Crosby, Benn etc then he hasn't outscored Kane, Crosby, Benn etc.

Not even McDavid hating. Just saying that a lot of statements about him have been premature to put it lightly. Consistency over 82 games is not easy to do, for even the most talented players. Putting the title "best" or "top" on any player that hasn't played a full season is a head scratcher for me. I'm not sure people who are quick to say that fully appreciate the weight of that label, when you consider how good this league is.

Never thought I'd ever hear myself say this, but I think the Oilers might be for real. It's still too early to tell if they'll be a playoff team or not, but I don't think they're gonna be the pushovers they were over the last few years with the way they're currently playing.

Your timeline's off. Flames fans loved him until last season, then he was a bum who only blocked shots cause he couldn't get the puck out!
