Maybe you don't notice you're doing it... but you are. And don't get hung up on the word hate. Obviously I'm not inferring you want to run over his dog... but you're fixating on him in this poor start the team is having, and judging on a very small sample size using single instances to fit a narrative you've been weaving for a couple weeks now.
|
As one of the best players on the team, he's absolutely responsible for a significant amount of this poor start. He's the captain, and he takes up the single biggest % of our cap space. My expectations for him are high, they have been for a few years now, and he often delivers.
I do recall calling him out for looking like a pylon while covering McDavid, and I also recall saying he single handily was costing us the STL game the other night (which I firmly believe he was with his stupid penalty, then his undisciplined arguing of said penalty, and then when he just got undressed). I have no hate for him, but he's been bad bad bad to start the year.
Again, you are just proving my point. I am fixating on Gio, and Gaurdreau and Monahan since the start of this season. Why? Because our best players have sucked so far, and IMO it's the reason we are 2-4-1. I'm far less concerned about why Wideman or Grossmann aren't better players for example, which is often where many posters want to look because it's uncomfortable calling out the players that are suppose to be good for us, because if those players are the problem, the problem might be bigger than it might be if all our woes can be assigned to the Wideman's and the Grossmann's of the team.
I have never once said Gio is a bad player, I've said he's playing bad, which is true. Small sample size means nothing if I'm not trying to extrapolate a greater conclusion from it other than Gio has been bad in the moment.
I will admit that I don't think any of us are going to be fan's of Gio's contract in the future, but that's a problem for another year, and that's not anything that would turn me against Gio when that time comes. BT will take the brunt of my frustration should that day arise.

I am not going to overreact to Grossmann in, but Kulak has no business sitting three nights in a row when he was playing so well.

I think you're over-stating and exaggerating, as a handful of people have done to the 9th degree in the last week.
Everyone has been bad trying to learn this new system, and you're fixating on Gio and blowing single plays out of proportion.
Any player in the NHL is currently going to get beat by McDavid. The "pylon" comment was ridiculous, and a symptom of the exaggerating I'm referring to.
Hold him to higher account all you want. I'm just pointing out you're starting to sound like a broken record bringing it up in multiple threads ad nauseam. Including this essay quoted, you're getting your feelings across loud and clear.

Grossman scores 2 goals and adds an assist as he begins his unexpected run to a Norris Trophy win.

Hopefully Gross doesn't get burned but I'm kind of excited tbh.
Either he plays horrible and we don't see him again or he plays decent and levels multiple people and then hopefully sits for a while anyway.
Doesnt he have to play a certain number of games so we can expose him for the draft?
But why would Vegas take Gross over Kevin anyway.

I disagree,
Bouma was a force on the fore-check last night. Not to mention he played a major shutdown role against the Blackhawks top lines. While Hamilton did play well, possibly his best game yet, he is still the worst forward on the team.

Jokipakka should not be sitting. Brodie and Engelland struggled the most last night. I get keeping in Engelland because of the physical play needed but maybe it was time to sit Brodie as he hasn't had a good game all season and pre season.

You don't sit one of your best players because he has had a tough start to the season

I think Gulu-Dan went to bat for Grossman and wants to be proven right.

Disagree with the D pairings but hopefully will be proven wrong. Seems like we have too many on our roster though, Kulak should be playing somewhere and Freddie Hamilton looked good last night - certainly good enough to stay in the lineup.

Guess Grossman's the new whipping boy around here. Looking forward to the CP meltdown when he makes a mistake tonight and people magnifying the significance of the mistake by 1000x.

Given that his mistakes always seem to end up in the back of the net, I'm willing to cut him some slack if they're not enormous. However, if it's yet another goal against from a boneheaded play, out come the torches and pitchforks.

Tkachuk - Stajan - Ferland
I like this look, it's a good spot for Tkachuk. Stajan and Ferland are coming off of one of their best games yet. I think this line should play well.

No he really didn't. I know a win sometimes clouds judgement especially if it's looked at as negative but Brodie did now have a good game yesterday. He was a -2 and did anyone not notice his weak play with seconds ticking that almost cost us the game if not for a great play by Frolik and an even better save by Elliott? He was weak all night.

Why are we talking about Grossmann when Dougie Hamilton STILL hasn't been traded for Trouba! Won't somebody please think of the Children!
Ok kidding. I gave GG the benefit of the doubt playing Grossmann for size in game 1 and he burned us bad. I don't like it. Hopefully he will prove most of us wrong but I have a feeling I am going to be clenching everytime he is on the ice.

If a crappy player is crappy, then he's not a whipping boy. He just sucks.
Grossmann is a big mistake in my book for Treliving and for Gulutzan for playing him. And I normally will always give a guy a chance.
