One thing that stand out to me is he's shooting over 23% this year, with a career average of 13%. I'd expect him to cool off somewhat. At 23 years old he is in his prime scoring years now though. He's a solid player for sure.

How did the die hard Jets fan manage to butcher his name that badly?

Yes, particularly if they are Flames fans. You added 3 extra letters though. I know it's a rare name, but wouldn't you have read it thousands of times by now?

Regardless, Scheifele is a fantastic young center, so your original point certainly stands! I mean, he will cool off points-wise for sure, but he seems to consistently contribute and play well. What lines does he usually match up against?

Good ones. The best. Terrific lines.

People should use this thread more for the cool stuff happening around the league.

Here are a couple of unreal passing plays between Stamkos and Kucherov last night.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one using this thread, but at least it's a good repository for cool plays. This one from last night is nuts, because you know they had to have practiced it; they use Ovechkin as a dummy, winding up and letting the puck go through him for a shot from the high slot. Rebound, goal.

At first it looks like Ovechkin might have just missed the pass, but you can actually see him looking over his shoulder. And Carlson's just waiting for it.

With Kopitar, Quick, and Gaborik injured, is this the worst roster in the NHL?

Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-Lewis-Purcell
Brown-Dowd-Setoguchi
Clifford-Shore-Nolan

Forbort-Doughty
Muzzin-Martinez
Gravel-Gilbert

Apparently he was named Philadelphia pro sports athlete of the year today, too. Dave Hakstol is apparently really, really high right now.

I read a post from a Flyers fan about it. Apparently Ghost Bear has been a tire fire defensively this year and turned over a ton of pucks. Sounds like Hakstol is just trying to get his player going.

He's fine. The only problem with Gostisbehere is he's been paired with Andrew MacDonald. Who is absolutely terrible... and of course is coming off the IR to take Gostisbehere's lineup spot tonight.

See this amazing piece of journalism (that caused the team to pull the author's press credentials) -

We’re beyond rationality with the MacDonald saga at this point, and the overwrought justification that the Flyers are simply trying to get him to enough games played to qualify for the expansion draft next summer doesn’t pass muster (Las Vegas isn’t going to take him, by the way). This is a bewildering, utter organizational failure. It’s also on the media, all of whom are complicit in the sham since they refuse to challenge Hakstol on his deployment of MacDonald (the only one who has the balls to do it is Charlie O’Connor from Broad Street Hockey and Hakstol doesn’t even try to defend MacDonald when answering, he instead talks in platitudes about the whole team having to be better). I feel like I’m caught in a perverse social experiment where the Flyers are trying to see how much willful incompetence they can subject fans to before there’s some kind of unprecedented revolt. A GoFundMe to buy out the rest of MacDonald’s contract was started after this game, so I guess that’s step one?
So if you want to complain about Gulutzan at any point, recognize that it could actually be worse.

How can he partnered with him if he is just coming off IR and replacing Gostisbehere in the lineup?

Boy that Andrew MacDonald contract has to be one of the worst contracts ever handed out. At least David Clarkson had a bit of a resume as a hard working forward that gained a bit of a scoring touch. The Flyers out of nowhere traded for this guy and handed him a big deal like they felt they had unearthed a hidden gem or something.

They played together before MacDonald was hurt. He's Gostisbehere's most common defensive partner this year. When he's sharing the ice with MacDonald, Gostisbehere's CF% is 47.8%, and his goals for percentage is 30%. Without MacDonald, it's 58.4% and 57.1%. The problem is pretty obvious.

They won tonight though, 5-2, basically because Steve Mason is currently the most underrated goalie in the league and stole several clear goals, while Winnipeg's tandem has been horribly disappointing. MacDonald was directly responsible for the second Jets goal.

Seriously?

That roster is better than anything you'll find in Western Canada.

No, it's not great by any stretch, but it's also not the worst in the NHL
