I like Jokipakka, but half of his value is the fact his contract is so reasonable. If Vegas claims him, they will be claiming an RFA who will in all likelihood be getting a decent raise.
If I am building a new team, do I pick Jokipakka at $900k? Every day. Do I pick a Jokipakka that will be asking for 2-3 times that? Maybe not.

But my whole suggestion - as admittedly far fetched as it was - was based on the fact that trading him would be almost an impossibility. He's got a full no trade clause until 2020, and then can submit ten teams for the last two years of the contract.

The Flames would be the laughing stock of the entire league if they exposed Giordano to the expansion draft. My god. Webber just brought back Subban in a trade. Giordano probably wouldn't bring back that, but damn straight you could get something worthwhile in a trade. On top of which, the Flames are going to give up a top line defensman to protect a projected #4 defensman and some cap space? This forum has sunk to new lows the past couple of months.

I don't think his contract is remotely appealing to any team.
He's 33 and his contract just started. That's a lot of risk considering he's at the age where lots of players start slowing down. No one can confidently say we'll see the Gio of the last 2 years ever again let alone 6 years from now...

I heard you can retain salary. His play will be the deciding factor of his value just like anyone else.

Is that true that every team will lose 1 player to Vegas in the expansion draft, barring any of those "don't pick my player trades?"

yeah they'll take one player from every team 100 percent. Even if you trade them an asset for not selecting a certain player, they'll still be able to select another player from your team.

If Jokipakka has a breakout year just protect four D instead. The Flames are set up nicely for an expansion draft either way.

What Iīve noticed about Kevin is that when in doubt in his own zone, instead of risking a turnover with an ill-advised pass, heīll spin around and re-group to start again. He does this several times a game. Thatīs what you want in a bottom pairing, defensive dman - someone that doesnīt make stupid plays or give it away. Grossman take note.

I'd rather lose Kevin than Backs or Frolik.
