all can play center.

They also have Aagard and Pollock in the ECHL that can play center.

I think I may be the only person that is happy they signed Grossman.

The Flames do not have another defenseman like him other than Engelland and Smid. With Smid out for the year, Grossman will provide basically the same game as him.

The Flames have a ton of quality two way D-men, so it's not as big a deal to say replace Wideman with a handful of guys. If Engelland goes down, there are no physical guys to replace him unless you want Kanzig patrolling out there (an even worse idea at the moment)

Lomberg as well has played a bit of centre.

Wonder what's up here on defense.

- Paper transactions?
- Is one of the vet D nursing an injury?
- Still need to evaluate Grossman & Kulak further in either games or practice to decide between them for 7th?
- Still hopeful to make a trade?
- Would they keep Kulak 7th, and send down Grossman? Seems unlikely to not have Kulak playing games if he's the 7th D.
- Will Kulak just be sent down tomorrow and all my Qs will be moot?

Kulak will almost certainly be sent down once they put Smid on LTIR. They won't waste the precious cap space having Kulak sit in the press box.

They have no reason to put Smid on LTIR right now, they're cap compliant without it and it has more aspects to it than just cap relief.

We should have a poll... the options will be "cool" and "ack".

There's some merit to the latter.
It's more like Gio / Ham / Brodie on 60/60 vs Gio / Brodie / Ham on 50/60.

I don't want wideman/egeland/ Joki each getting 20 min a night. I'd rather have the 3rd pairing getting 12 minutes a night with the 3 big guns getting the PP/PK time and the 4th logging about 20 min.

I'll take my chances against the 3rd/4th forward lines vs having wideman out vs a Getzlaf / Perry line

Haven't you heard? Truculence is bad. All players have to be small, skilled, and soft. We want to be like the K-Lowe Oilers!

Also, the ECHL isn't a death sentence any longer - especially not with the Flames owning Adirondack. Pollock got sent down there so he could get quality minutes and further develop his game. More and more players in the NHL are spending time developing in the ECHL. It simply isn't just where careers go to die any longer.

I wonder if the Flames have seen the last of Bollig. I think he gets recalled shortly, and probably in time for Edmonton's game. If he is ever going to get recalled this season, it will be against Edmonton. I do think we will no longer see Bollig on the Flames (unless he Gulutzan makes him more useful) about halfway through the year (at least not unless there are some shenanigans with Edmonton).

Engelland I think they will bring back for next season - maybe on a 1 or 2 year, lower-dollar deal. Question is, do they wait until after the expansion draft, or do they sign him and make him available thinking that Vegas won't select him? Engelland is steady on defence, and is by far the best 'physical defensive defencemen' that the Flames have organizationally. I don't think they will let him walk unless his contract demands are too high. Wideman is gone after this year for sure. Engelland I bet they re-sign (or attempt to re-sign).

Derek Engelland lives in Las Vegas in the off-season. I would think he's motivated to sign there for a swan song if he's still NHL play-worthy.

I now want Hamilton and Engelland to play together just so we can call them the Ham'n'Eggs pairing.

Pribyl caught a tough break getting injured in training camp.

Still think he can make a contribution in the organization.

These Euro veteran pick-ups is a good strategy. David Wolf. Jakub Nakladal. They don't always pan out but there's a chance one works out.

He was injured months ago at the end of his season in the Czech league.
