Also, I expect the fact that the Flames are an actual NHL team played a part in this decision.

Shinkaruk definitely needs work still. Athleticism is ok but lacks consistent contribution.

Probably. They're even likely staying at the same hotel so he won't even have to change rooms -- unless he was rooming with an Oilers prospect.

Not that I'm big on Versteeg, but wasn't everyone supposed to drop their whole lives for a chance to play on a team with McDavid?

Brouwer
Frolik
Boillig
Versteeg

All ex-Blackhawks.

Now Treliving needs to work on Kane and Toews!

You can put lipstick on the Oilers, still the Oilers.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger Sources indicate Versteeg deal will be 1 yr, likely under $1 mil.

Oiler fans were saying he looked better than Pulatruck or whatever his name is this preseason.

1 year, under 1 million. Absolutely nothing to lose here. He could have a bit of a career resurgence playing with Johnny and Mony. 15G/40P isn't unrealistic if they click. As a bonus, HFOilers are absolutely salty over this.

I can't imagine the Flames offer (if it's under 1M) would have been that much less than the Oilers. I don't doubt we outbid them, but I think Burke, BT and the owners run a pretty tight ship around here, and the organization has a very good reputation with the players. Something I think we often don't appreciate around here.

This is great...if only because my IRL Oiler fan "friends" have been talking him up big time

I have heard the character issues stuff as well. That being said I have family in Lethbridge that have known Kris for years. They don't understand the criticism and to a person all love the guy.

I just hope he has some spark left in his legs as at one time he was a really good NHL player.

Weaker winger depth.

He'll get a shot at first line minutes with Calgary.

Let hope he can click with Sean John.

We have enough young players on the roster. I think adding some vets with track records of putting up points and playing on winning teams isn't a bad route to take at this point. Look what Brouwer has done for the Bennett line already. I think Sean and Johnny are better off with a vet (ala Hudler) than another young guy that has never been put in that sort of role. Not to say I would've argued with picking up one of those guys to slot in elsewhere, as potential and low risk is never a bad thing.
