Interesting that this expires a year before Monahan's and at the same time as Gio's (who won't be signing another big deal at that time). If things keep progressing, this sets him up for a big payday that can set the "Gaudreau Cap" that everyone can talk about.

This is a good deal...lets not worry about this until 5 years down the road. If what were building isn't a cup contender then it will probably be best for johnny and the flames to part ways. I think this is an excellent deal for everyone involved. The Flames are heading in the right direction and were not breaking the bank for other future stars we might have with us right now.
