Mowed mine up tonight. First time doing it instead of raking. Will never go back.

Anybody else mulch their grass and leaves? I haven't bagged in years. I even mulch pine cones. My mower isn't anything special, either. Just a random Craftsman.

I mulch the grass, but I have way to many leaves to mulch. Like, I go 10 feet with the mower and have to empty the bag. No way I could mulch that.

First year not in a townhouse, but I have raked the majority of leaves up without being anal on how well I did it and then mulched the rest along with the lawn.

200? I must have about 200,000 in my backyard. It's insane.

Just take the bag off, let the mower blow them everywhere for you.

That's what I do. My mower is a 'bagger only' style though so I wear a motorcycle helmet while I do it to keep the leaves out of my eyes.

Take the bag attachment off. If you are mulching, you shouldn't be picking anything up.

I get that, when I am mulching. I was just using it to explain how much leaves I have. Usually I vacuum up the leaves with the mower into the bag, and empty it into a garbage bag. Easier than raking it. But with that amount of leaves, mulching wouldn't' work.
I think someone should build a bagger attachment that you could strap a big plastic leaf bag to the mower, then just kinda drag it around. Take one step out of the process.

ah ok, that makes more sense.
I just moved to a yard with a lot more trees than I had before. My plan is just to mulch the crap out of them. Even if it leaves a bed of mulched leaves on the lawn, it'll turn into free fertilizer over winter.

For a mulching newbie - how exactly does it work?
Do you simply replace regular blade on your mower with a mulching blade, take off the bag, and the leaves get all chopped up into the lawn?

Pretty much except a lot of mowers don't need different blades. One blade does it all.

My lawnmower has a plug I put in to prevent the clippings coming out the bag hole.
