Yep, agreed. I really like the odds and ends part.

As for my videos I know that only a fraction of Flames fans are looking for marathon length videos. But those that want to see a player's entire season seem to really like them.

I see the same kind of responses when one of my videos gets posted on Reddit or HFboards. Someone complains about how the video is too long, or included "pointless" non-goal highlights (like how I included a highlight of Brodie getting a breakaway in OT vs Boston but not scoring). Then someone else comes along and says they love how in depth they are as you can really get an idea of how a particular player actually plays the game.

For some players like Gaudreau or Brodie, their non-goal highlights are the most impressive parts about their game IMO.

The way I see it, there are a lot of options if someone wants to see a 1-2 minute video of a player's top goals out there, including from the Flames themselves. But I don't think anybody else tries to encapsulate a player's entire season the same way.

Totally. And when one poster - or a few posters - take a concept to a next level like this I'm all for leaving it to them until they ask for help. We're all good at something different.

Cali, I don't think you read the room wrong. I think there is great appreciation for your GDTs. However, most of us would agree that we don't have the right to EXPECT you or anyone else to put in such effort, and no one should feel they are letting the group down if they can't do it. But if you do, we will definitely appreciate and enjoy it. I'm selfishly hoping it continues, even though I read them selectively.

I think they get read a lot - but frankly often there just isn't much to debate. The opinions are well made and well thought through, so it doesn't generate as much discussion as some half-baked poorly thought through rant that gets posted on the main board.
Which seems bass-ackwards but there's some truth in it.

But I will think about it.
I actually think you're a pretty good writer and I'm not one of the guys who complains about the amount of threads you've made. It's the internet ffs, who cares.

You'd have my vote

If I watch the game I rarely read them but if I miss it I'll usually read it. Or if it's an epic comeback win or something.

I think there's like a tsn turning point thing that I always find interesting.

But I appreciate the post.
Definitely enjoyed your previous write ups. I think you'll do great.

I think if some posters want to put in a some effort and make up a solid GDT then go for it. I like reading them for the most part. And if people like writing them up, then great. Usually they're written fairly early in the day so it's not a big deal. But I can see it being a bit annoying if posters here want to talk about the upcoming game but the so-called chosen one to write it up hasn't posted it until the afternoon.....why wait? If posters want to do them up I say great, just make sure you post them as early in the day as possible to avoid any drama.

This. Days where I thought I had written it well had some of the fewest responses.

A lot of truth. I read most if not all of the GDT and PGT write-ups, but rarely post much in the discussion.

I come out of my hidey-hole when people start saying CP doesn't appreciate JG enough. That's unforgivable.

Same. My Season Preview for the Forwards was easily the most-replied, because, looking back, some of those projections were ridiculous. My Defence and Goalies projections were a lot less replied, since I think I was a lot more reasonable with both.

I think the lack of response on the post game summaries for me was due to the fact there were two threads. A PGT and a game summary. Wasn't really sure where to respond to stuff. So I try to do both a bit. I appreciated the game summaries too. I think I just like as much flames content as possible I guess.

That's the biggest thing for me. I know for myself that I hate it when there isn't a thread by halfway through the day. Plus, puppetguy would pester me to put up the thread so he could post his insane concoction for the day. I kept telling him to just post the thread himself if he wanted to.

If I can be honest, there were days when HD would forget to post the thread and nothing would be up until a couple hours before game time. It doesn't seem like a lot of other people even want to bother posting anything, otherwise they would take the opportunity to do so. So this whole "let anybody post whatever, whenever" is fine in theory, but people are lazy and nobody wants to actually do it.

As far as the game summaries go I love them. Last few years I haven't seen as many games, and if I do I'm often only half paying attention. The post game summaries are fantastic.

I think a large part of this is reluctance on people to "take someone's job". Really the GDT regulars seems to be a relatively recent development. In the last few seasons if I remember correctly.

This discussion is a great illustration of why click-bait articles are typically so horrible. It's what people respond to.

I actually suspect that because HD did such a great job of it (as do you) that to most people it became his thing, and we didn't want to step on his toes. I know there were many times I would check over and over for the thread, but no way was I going to be arrogant enough to start it myself!

Edit: exactly what nik- said.

Your videos are amazing because they don't just capture the highlight reel goals. I loved when you included missed plays on your Gaudreau videos or a good defensive play. I've literally watched your Gaudreau videos about 15 times. Keep doing what you're doing.

Well I don't think I would attempt to do what Puppetguy or Gaskal does, but I know that a lot of people pester them to post their thing, especially Gaskal. I wouldn't doubt that they don't always want to do it but feel compelled to continue.

I think the "little things" Brodie highlights vid was my favourite AC vid.
