A lot of talk about drinking water.

As a survivor of bladder cancer, many friends asked what they should do to prevent it themselves. My answer was always stop smoking, stay away from harmful chemicals, and drink lots of water.

I never used to drink that much water. I always believed that if my body needed water I would feel thirsty, and would drink water accordingly, which I don't feel was often enough. Under my doctor's advice, I drink 400 ml (large glass) four times a day...on waking up, mid afternoon, mid evening and before going to bed.

Some people say they don't enjoy drinking water, but I have found that once you start on a drinking routine, it comes naturally, and the health benefit far outweighs the possible lack of enjoyment.

Another reason for drinking water is that the kidneys like to be bathed in water when functioning.

just my experience

I find that establishing a healthy disgust of our materialistic society is pretty effective on the pocketbook. So much unnecessary spending, you people make me sick.

Three things I never cheap out on:

Beer
Toilet Paper
Meat

Beyond that, I couldn't give 2 ####s less if my paper towel is quilted or if my TV is from Costco and not Sony. Generally I don't do much in terms of cutting back (restaurants, booze etc.) but if I have a big expense coming up, I'll start working longer hours. This is either at my job or side work.

Have switched to hard liquor as beer has become ridiculously expensive here.
It used to be that we stocked up before going to BC, now when I am out West I think "holy wow that's cheap!"

Damn beer taxes.

I used to make my wife buy the toilet paper after doing an inventory in my reserves a month after moving in together.

I buy all my clothes from Value Village.

I cut alcohol out my diet and switched to bottled water.

Do you bottle the tap water? Or do you let other companies bottle it for you for a 1000% markup?

And you call it bottled water. Haha, I guess technically that's accurate.

I don't know if it's wives tale or actually true but I thought the cheap plastic bottles weren't good for long term use.

I buy lattes at 7/11 instead of Starbucks. Same taste, but instead of $4, it's $1.

When you buy them five days a week, you save a lot of money.

I take evman's tack. Finding perfect substitutes, and using the cheaper one.
