Would be shocked if Gaudreau got less than 7 million unless its a short deal.

Again I think Gaudreau's deal will not exceed Giordano's 6.75 AAV. Could be wrong. Don't think so. #Flames
Solid deal for the Flames!

If it ends up being there, I think we're looking at a 5 or 6 year deal at max...which I imagine we'd end up regretting.

At the time of the draft, one would have been committed had they suggested in 3 years Monahan would have earned a second contract slightly larger than MacKinnon. Good stuff.

This is a good deal all around. I expect we will see Johnny sign for 6 or 8 years now to avoid having to deal with both in the same year again. Thinking it will likely be a 6 year deal for Johnny at a slightly higher number AAV than Monahan, possibly Gio number.

I think I've spotted the hold up in the Gaudreau negotiations...

Yeah, I don't see the Gaudreau camp thinking that Monahan or Gio's deal should inhibit his cap number. Should be right around 7, I would guess.

I have a feeling term not money may be holding up Gaudreau's contract.

If ultimately Gaudreau wants $7M, I could see the team pushing hard to have him respect the Gio cap at $6.75M, and ultimately he will agree. I would dance a jig in my office if this was the case

If Johnny signs for $6.75 million or less, I have no problem with it being only a 6 year deal. 6 years is quite a long time.

It's like Brad Treliving is good at this job or something. Mind bottling.

I think Johnny loves playing for the Flames and is enjoying his time in Calgary but part of me thinks the long term plan is for him to play for an eastern based US team close to his family and I can't fault him for that if true.

My guess is his camp wants five years, Flames want seven. Five years would bring him to UFA at age 28, same age Monahan hits it, but the Flames are probably pushing for seven.
Hopefully six works, Gaudreau will be 29 and still able to nab another big contract.
