It is borderline nonsense for people to insist that Monahan is a "good second line centre." The kid ranked in the 95th percentile of production among all designated centres to play in the NHL last year, and he was one of only three players in the top-thirty at his position under the age of 22-years-old.

He might be good at driving the play but there is no way he's just as effective as Gaudreau at driving the play.

I think we need to start calling our team "The Prime Team", because all of our best players (Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Giordano, Brodie) wear prime numbers (13, 23, 11, 5, 7, respectively) on their jerseys.

Gaudreau is the only "star" on the team by my definition
However I do agree, still. Brodie is one of, if not the most under rated player in the game.

i forgot about seguin and stamkos. Im pretty sure Pavelski is a winger at the moment. The rest i dont agree at all. Eichal and Barkov need a couple really good 70 point seasons to be a bonified #1 centre.

Barkov is a bonafide number one centre already. Watch some FLA games and it's pretty obvious. Arbitrary statistical cut offs be damned.
Eichel will be a #1 centre. He basically runs their powerplay already.
Tough to come to a consensus on these things because number 1 centre means different things to different people and some people are too hesitant to apply the label to players until they are stars/superstars.

Enjoyed reading this thread to see how people view that levels of stardom. Since Brodie and Giordano are a couple of your top players, I figured this was an apt question...
Do defensemen get underrated in groupings like these because of their less flashy role? (and I am not meaning to imply there are no dmen on these lists, just that they might end up underrepresented.)

Brodie's as an all-star, he's just too cool for all-star games.

Side question, the Oilers have one of the generational talents, how do the Flames deal with that? How will the Flames stop him? It just breaks my heart too see him on that team.

Ovechkin is undiaputedly the greatest goal scorer of the past several generations, and perhaps of all time. If he's not considered generational, then I don't know who would meet the criteria.

To my mind, he is a generational goal scorer, but a generational all around player.
Pedantic.

Well, there aren't too many career point per game players in the last 20 years, and he is one of them. He does have an Art Ross and three Harts to go along with his goal scoring titles.
